Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) was elected BGMEA president in direct balloting by its 27 newly elected directors.

The directors also elected four other office-bearers of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for a two-year term (2011-12).

They are Nasir Uddin Chowdhury (First Vice President), Md. Siddiqur Rahman (Second Vice President), Faruque Hassan (Vice President) and S.M. Mannan (Kochi) (Vice President, Finance).

The new BGMEA Board of Directors will take over charge of the apex trade body of the apparel industry at its annual general meeting on March 27.
