পোশাক শ্রমিকদের বেতন-ভাতা পরিশোধে জরুরি আর্থিক সহায়তা: বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংককে বিজিএমইএ’র ধন্যবাদ পোশাক খাতের শ্রমিকদের দুই মাসের (আগস্ট ও সেপ্টেম্বর) বেতন-ভাতা পরিশোধের সুবিধার্থে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক ৮৮৬ কোটি টাকা ছাড় করেছে। এক্সিম ব্যাংক ও এসআইবিএল ব্যাংকের মাধ্যমে এই অর্থ ছাড় করা হয়েছে, যা বিজিএমইএ-এর অনুরোধের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে একটি জরুরি পদক্ষেপ। এই সময়োপযোগী পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণের জন্য বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান এবং সহ-সভাপতি মো. শিহাব উদ্দোজা চৌধুরী অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয় ও বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের প্রতি আন্তরিক ধন্যবাদ ও কৃতজ্ঞতা জানিয়েছেন। সম্প্রতি পাঁচটি সংকটাপন্ন ব্যাংক তীব্র তারল্য সংকটের কারণে সংশ্লিষ্ট পোশাক কারখানাগুলোকে রপ্তানিমূল্য প্রত্যাবাসন হলেও অর্থ দিতে পারছিল না। এর ফলে কারখানাগুলো শ্রমিকদের পাওনা পরিশোধ করতে পারছিল না এবং শিল্পের স্বাভাবিক কার্যক্রম মারাত্মকভাবে ব্যাহত হচ্ছিল। এ অবস্থায় পোশাক রপ্তানিকারকদের আর্থিক কার্যক্রমে সৃষ্ট অচলাবস্থা নিরসনের অনুরোধ নিয়ে গত ২৬ আগস্ট ২০২৫ তারিখে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক ভবনে গভর্নর ড. আহসান এইচ মনসুরের সাথে বৈঠক করেন বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান, সহ-সভাপতি মো. শিহাব উদ্দোজা চৌধুরী এবং বিজিএমইএ-এর পরিচালকরা। এর ফলশ্রুতিতে, বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক উপরোক্ত অর্থ ছাড়ের ঘোষণা দিয়েছে।

Robust growth in RMG export to US, outlook looks better Bangladesh's apparel export to the United States posted a robust 21.68-percent growth in the first seven months of 2025 and exporters expect a better tomorrow as Trump tariff turmoil changes trade equations. According to US official count, the export to the country's single-largest market grew both in terms of value and volume during the period-even under shadows of much-talked-about oncoming tariff hikes. Asked about the latest situation, Mahmud Hasan Khan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), termed the growth 'good' and expected the growth to continue through October onward. "August and September growth might slow a bit as some buyers delayed placing work orders over uncertainty related to tariffs," he notes. "Besides, there were some advance shipments to meet the July-31st deadline and avoid possible enhanced tariffs by the Trump administration," he explains the situation on the cusp of shifts in trade dynamics.

শ্রমিকের বেতন দিতে দুই ব্যাংককে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের হাজার কোটি টাকা ধার জানা যায়, ব্যাংক দুটির তৈরি পোশাক খাতের এসব গ্রাহকের রপ্তানি আয় দেশে এলেও তারল্যসংকটের কারণে সেই অর্থ রপ্তানিকারকদের পরিশোধ করতে পারছে না এক্সিম ও সোশ্যাল ইসলামী ব্যাংক। এমনকি ব্যাংকগুলো নতুন ঋণপত্র খুলতেও ব্যর্থ হচ্ছে। এতে তৈরি পোশাক প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো আর্থিক ক্ষতির সম্মুখীন হচ্ছিল। শ্রমিকদের বেতন-ভাতা পরিশোধ করতে পারছিল না। এমন প্রেক্ষাপটে গত ২৬ আগস্ট তৈরি পোশাকশিল্প মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএর নেতারা বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গভর্নরের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করে এই অচলাবস্থা নিরসনের অনুরোধ জানান। তারপরই ব্যাংক দুটিকে অর্থসহায়তা দেওয়ার উদ্যোগ নেয় কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংক।জানতে চাইলে বিজিএমইএর সহসভাপতি মো. শিহাব উদ্দোজা চৌধুরী প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘আমরা বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গভর্নরের সঙ্গে বৈঠক করে অনুরোধ করেছিলাম, দ্রুত ব্যবস্থা না নিলে বেতন–ভাতার দাবিতে শ্রমিক অসন্তোষ দেখা দিতে পারে। তারপর বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক দ্রুত সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ায় কারখানাগুলো টাকা পাবে। শ্রমিকের বেতন-ভাতা নিয়েও সমস্যা হবে না।’

আগস্টে পোশাক রপ্তানিতে ধাক্কা, তবু সম্ভাবনাময় জানতে চাইলে তৈরি পোশাক শিল্প মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএর সিনিয়র সহ-সভাপতি ইনামুল হক খান (বাবলু) গতকাল আমাদের সময়কে বলেন, যুক্তরাষ্টের পাল্টা শুল্ক আরোপের কারণে ক্রেতা ও কারখানা মালিকদের মধ্যে পোশাকের দরদাম নিয়ে নতুন করে দরকষাকষি করতে হয়েছে। এ ছাড়া উভয় পক্ষ অস্বস্তিতে ছিলেন। ফলে অর্ডারও কমেছিল। এ কারণে রপ্তানি কমেছে। তবে আগামী দিনে পরিস্থিতি ঘুরে যাবে বলে আশা করছি। ইনামুল হক খান বলেন, ভারতের ওপর ৫০ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ বহাল থাকলে আমরা লাভবান হব। ভারত চীনের সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক বাড়ালে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ভারতের ওপর থেকে শুল্ক কমানোর সম্ভাবনা থাকবে না। এটা আমাদের জন্য প্লাস পয়েন্ট। এই সুযোগ কাজে লাগাতে হবে বলেও মন্তব্য করেন এই উদ্যোক্তা।

In a statement issued today (4 September), BGMEA said, "To facilitate the payment of two months' wages and allowances to workers in the garment sector, Bangladesh Bank has released Tk886 crore through Exim bank and SIBL.""Bangladesh Bank has released export proceeds through two banks to enable nearly 250 garment factories to pay workers' wages and allowances for two months," BGMEA Vice President Shehab Udduza Chowdhury told The Business Standard.

RMG exports to US rise to $5b in Jan-July The country’s readymade garment exports to the United States experienced a robust growth of 21.68 per cent to $4.98 billion in the January-July period of 2025.Best clothing retailers According to the latest data published by the US Office of Textiles and Apparel, Bangladeshi exporters exported RMG items worth $4.09 billion in the same period of 2024.Talking to New Age, Inamul Haq Khan, senior vice president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said that the exports to the US increased due to the shifting of orders from China. ‘China’s share and export to US market gradually declining due to trade war and tariff issues,’ he added, saying that the government should ensure policy supports. Former BGMEA director Mohiuddin Rubel said that US buyers have always trusted Bangladeshi products. ‘As Trump administration announced new tariff, we have opportunity to do better in the coming years,’ he added.

Bangladesh gains big in US apparel market as China loses ground Between January and July, Bangladesh shipped apparel worth $4.98 billion to the US, according to the latest trade data. This outpaces the overall US apparel import growth of just 4.96% during the same period, which totalled $45.80 billion globally. In terms of quantity, the number of Bangladeshi garments imported by the US rose 20.33% year-on-year, while the unit price climbed by 1.11%. "This strong growth proves Bangladesh is consolidating its position as one of the most reliable sourcing destinations for global buyers," said Mohiuddin Rubel, former director of BGMEA and managing director of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange.

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পোশাক রফতানিতে সুবাতাস, সাত মাসে ২২ শতাংশ প্রবৃদ্ধি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারে পোশাক রফতানিতে দাপুটে অবস্থানে রয়েছে বাংলাদেশ। চলতি বছরের প্রথম সাত মাসে (জানুয়ারি-জুলাই) ৪ হাজার ৯৮২ মিলিয়ন ডলারের পোশাক রফতানি হয়েছে দেশটিতে। ২০২৪ সালের একই সময়ের তুলনায় রফতানি আয়ে প্রবৃদ্ধি হয়েছে ২১ দশমিক ৬৩ শতাংশ। সেসময় দেশটিতে রফতানি হয়েছিল ৪ হাজার ৯৪ মিলিয়ন ডলারের পণ্য। শুক্রবার (৫ সেপ্টেম্বর) যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাণিজ্য বিভাগের অধীন ইউএস অফিস অব টেক্সটাইল অ্যান্ড অ্যাপারেলের (ওটেক্সা) সর্বশেষ প্রতিবেদন থেকে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে। তৈরি পোশাক শিল্প মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএর সাবেক পরিচালক মহিউদ্দিন রুবেল বলেন, ‘চলতি বছরের শুরু থেকেই নানা কারণে পোশাক খাতে অস্বস্তি বিরাজ করেছে। তার পরেও যুক্তরাষ্টের বাজারে পোশাক রফতনির ধারা অব্যাহত রাখাটা অনেক চ্যালেঞ্জর ছিল উদ্যোক্তাদের। এখানে সরকার ও উদ্যোক্তাদের আন্তরিকতা ছিল।’ এই ধারা অব্যাহত থাকলে আগামীতে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পোশাক রফতানির প্রবৃদ্ধি আরও বাড়বে বলেও মনে করেন তিনি।

আফগানিস্তানে ভূমিকম্পে দুর্গতদের জন্য পোশাক পাঠাল বিজিএমইএ আফগানিস্তানে ভূমিকম্পে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত জনগণের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছে বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ)। সংস্থাটি এই মানবিক সংকটে ২ হাজার পোশাক অনুদান দিয়েছে বলে এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে জানিয়েছে। বৃহস্পতিবার রাজধানীর উত্তরায় বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে সংস্থার ভারপ্রাপ্ত সচিব মো. সাইফুল ইসলাম এসব পোশাক প্রধান উপদেষ্টার কার্যালয়ের সশস্ত্র বাহিনী বিভাগের জয়েন্ট অপারেশনসের জিএসও-২ (নৌ), লেফটেন্যান্ট কমান্ডার ফরিদুজ্জামান খানের কাছে হস্তান্তর করেন। এসময় বিজিএমইএয়ের সিনিয়র অতিরিক্ত সচিব (ক্রাইসিস ম্যানেজমেন্ট) মুনসুর খালেদসহ ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন। আফগানিস্তানের পূর্বাঞ্চলে গত ১ সেপ্টেম্বর ভূমিকম্প আঘাত হানে। এতে ১ হাজার ৪০০ জনের বেশি নিহত, ৩ হাজারের বেশি আহত ও ৮ হাজারের বেশি বাড়িঘর ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে।

BGMEA sends 2000 garments to earthquake hit Afghan people BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has stood by the earthquake affected people of Afghanistan. It has donated 2,000 garments for distribution among the affected people, a press release said. On Thursday, the trade body's acting secretary Md. Saiful Islam handed over the garments to Lieutenant Commander Fariduzzaman Khan, GSO-2 (Navy) of Joint Operations, Armed Forces Division at the BGMEA complex in Uttara in the capital. Senior additional secretary (crisis management) of BGMEA, Munsur Khaled, and other senior officials were present.
