Advancing BESS for RMG Energy Security

On 22nd April, a delegation including Mr. Hong Chen from HiTHIUM and Ms. Samanzar Khan, Managing Director, AKS Khan Holdings met with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at BGMEA to discuss the role of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in supporting Bangladesh’s RMG sector.

The discussion focused on how BESS technology can enhance energy security for BGMEA member factories, particularly through low-cost financing mechanisms and models such as OPEX, making adoption more accessible for SMEs. The meeting also explored the technical aspects of BESS and its practical applications within industrial operations.

The BGMEA President emphasized the importance of ensuring strong return on investment (ROI) and identifying viable financing structures to support wider adoption.

Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan highlighted the ongoing challenges of energy scarcity and reiterated BGMEA’s commitment to supporting members through knowledge sharing and guidance in navigating energy solutions. She further stressed that BGMEA is systematically advocating with the government to bring about the most optimal policy and regulatory solutions to enhance renewable energy in Bangladesh.

The meeting was also attended by BGMEA Director Faisal Samad, Chair, Standing Committee on Sustainable Energy Saifur Rahman Shapu, and Co-Chair, Standing Committee on Decarbonization Kamran Sadique.
