Army task force, factory representatives meet to discuss law and order situation in Gazipur

On 12 August 2024, a meeting was held between the task force, formed by the Bangladesh Army and the representatives of garment factories, to exchange views on the law and order situation in Gazipur.

BGMEA Directors Asif Ashraf and Shovon Islam represented BGMEA while Lt. Col. Mahfuz represented the Army Task Force at the meeting, which was held at Fakhruddin Textiles Mills Limited in Sreepur.

The meeting addressed several key issues, including enhancing security in Gazipur's garment factories, restoring comfort among factory workers, and fostering unity among industrial establishments on security matters.

They also discussed security-related issues, such as the establishment of zone-based community police for industries, with a particular focus on garment factories in Rajendrapur, Bhaluka, and Sreepur.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted criminal activities linked to the jhut trade in garment-dominated industrial areas. These activities involve groups creating young gangs that disrupt the working environment and harass factory owners and workers.

It was hoped that all industrial establishments, including Gazipur's garment factories, and law enforcement forces would collaborate to restore normal production conditions and improve overall law and order. The Army Task Force stated that the army would be proactive in ensuring a secure environment for factories in the industrial areas.

Around 50 high officials from garment factories in Sreepur, Rajendrapur, and Bhaluka participated in the discussion.
