A key exchange meeting was held on 23 April 2026 at the BGMEA Complex between the BGMEA President and the Standing Committee Chairpersons. The interactive session, moderated by Faisal Samad, brought together committee leaders who shared their insights on responsibilities, as well as the current challenges, opportunities, and way forward for Bangladesh’s apparel sector.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan addressed queries from participants and outlined the board’s ongoing and future action plans.
🔹 Key Highlights from the President’s Address:
1. Initiatives to ensure swift resolution of non-bond-related issues.
2. Continued bilateral engagement with relevant ministries to resolve FOC-related challenges.
3. Strengthening policy support to address banking issues of closed and distressed factories.
4. Improving incentive management:
o Disposal of submitted files up to February–March before Eid
o Ensuring monthly incentives are disbursed within the following month
5. Maintaining regular high-level communication with the government regarding extension of LDC graduation timelines.
6. Prioritizing SME sector development through coordination with SME Foundation and policymakers.
7. Enhancing Standing Committee activities by allocating dedicated spaces at BGMEA for inter-committee meetings.
8. Advancing plans for SME Eco-Park through presentations and strategic initiatives.
9. Resolving trade license and holding tax issues through coordination with city corporations.
10. Supporting solar panel installation:
• Maximizing benefits for SME entrepreneurs, including facilitating bank guarantees with support from Bangladesh Bank if required
11. Prioritizing digital compliance: including DPP (Digital Product Passport), skill training, and software-based compliance systems.
12. Establishing a digital PR platform to showcase the industry’s strengths and challenges both locally and globally.
The President also announced that smaller, regular monthly meetings will be arranged with each Standing Committee to ensure more dynamic and effective engagement.
The meeting was attended by the First Vice President, Senior Vice President, Vice Presidents, and other BGMEA Directors. At the beginning of the program, special prayers were offered for the families affected by the Rana Plaza Collapse.
