Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), highlighted the imperative to provide students with the knowledge and skills in alignment with the demand from the garment industry.

He said as Bangladesh is moving towards value-added, high-end apparel items, this transition has resulted in rise in demand for proficient workers and professionals in the country’s ready-made garment industry. 

Moreover, the industry is actively adopting technological advancements that necessitate a skilled workforce capable of operating advanced technologies and machinery, he added.

Faruque Hassan came up with observations while delivering his speech at a program organized to celebrate the first foundation day of Chattagram BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (CBUFT) in Chattogram on January 21.

Speaking at the event as chief guest, Faruque Hassan remarked, “The fashion industry is incorporating sustainability across all aspects of its operations, from the materials it uses to manufacturing processes.” 

“To address these evolving demands, our industry requires professionals equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills,” he further said.

Faruque Hassan said CBUFT would play an important role in equipping students with the skills required to perform in the increasingly automated and technology-driven landscape of the garment sector.

The event was attended by Syed Nazrul Islam, First Vice President of BGMEA; Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of CBUFT; Professor Dr. Mohammed Obaidul Karim, Vice Chancellor, CBUFT; Abdullah Hil Rakib, Director, BGMEA; Md. M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Director, BGMEA and S.M. Abu Tayyab, Founder Member, Board of Trustees, CBUFT.

CBUFT was established in Chattogram to create higher education opportunities, particularly in textile engineering, clothing, and fashion technologies and designs.
