
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) paid solemn tribute to its former Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Team Group, the late Abdullah Hil Rakib. A memorial discussion and special prayer session were organized by BGMEA in his honour at the Noorul Quader Auditorium of the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka on July 26, 2025.
The commemorative event was presided over by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and attended by a distinguished gathering, including former BGMEA presidents, current board members, general members, as well as family members and well-wishers of the late Abdullah Hil Rakib.
Among those who shared their memories and paid tribute were BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, former presidents Anisur Rahman Sinha, Kutubuddin Ahmed, Quazi Moniruzzaman, Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Faruque Hassan, Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, and Mrs. Afroza Shaheen, the wife of the late Abdullah Hil Rakib. The event opened with welcome remarks by BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan.
Speakers fondly remembered Abdullah Hil Rakib’s illustrious career and his exceptional contributions to Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
Recalling his visionary leadership, they described him as one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs and a trailblazer in the RMG sector. Abdullah Hil Rakib played a vital role in shaping industry policies and was deeply committed to realizing the ambitious target of reaching $100 billion in garment export earnings.
In his remarks, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan remembered Abdullah Hil Rakib as an inspiring individual who transformed several non-operational factories into environmentally sustainable enterprises, setting a powerful example for the next generation of industry leaders.
He further noted that realizing the vision of reaching $100 billion in export earnings would be a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy and dedication to the nation’s industrial development.
