BGMEA is going to open a temporary information cell at the premises of Tazreen Fashion in Nishchintapur in Savar to collect information about the families of victims to provide compensation.
BGMEA President Shafiul Islam Monday asked SM Mannan Kotchi, the head of a probe committee and also vice president (Finance) of the apex trade body for taking necessary steps to open the information cell.
The cell will work round-the-clock until information gathering is completed, he added.
Meanwhile, the concerned authorities have identified only 57 victims of the worst fire incident and also initiated DNA test for the remaining bodies.
At the Tazreen factory premises, RMG workers are continuing demonstration in protest against police actions and reluctance of BGMEA to initiate disbursement of salaries and wages for the workers who lost jobs. The factory has been shut down following the most-deadliest fire incident.
Talking with daily sun, Shafiul said salaries and wages will be disbursed tomorrow (Wednesday). He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is directly taking care of the fire victims and collecting information about recent situation.
“She (Sheikh Hasina) herself is working sincerely and we are hopeful of providing compensation within shortest possible time. But, to identify the genuine victims, we need some time,” he said.
On continued labor unrest in Savar and Ashulia area, Shafiul smelt rat into the unrest. “Some quarter is working to provoke workers to raise unrest. The industry is facing conspiracy from home and abroad,” he said.
Expressing grave concern, Shafiul said the incident that took place at Windy Fashion in Ashulia today (Monday) suggests that outsiders are acting in the labor unrest, which might affect the highest export-earning sector.
He said the fire incident at Tazreen has triggered tremendous pressures on the RMG industry and actions will be taken against who are responsible for it.
Last Sunday, the BGMEA probe committee disclosed that the fire incident did not happen accidentally from the faulty electricity line. “Information suggests that there was a planned arson attack and putting the exit under lock is also suspicious,” a source in the committee was quoted as saying.
Shafiqul Islam, a leader of trade union that deals with RMG workers, said the workers of the Tazreen Fashion, who were not victims of the worst fire, Sunday reached a consensus with BGMEA about payments of outstanding salaries and wages.
