Leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have requested senior official at the European Union, Rensje Teerink, to promote Bangladesh in the EU.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, Vice President Miran Ali, Directors Asif Ashraf, Tanvir Ahmed and Abdullah Hil Rakib, now visiting Belgium, met Ms. Rensje in Brussels on February 23 and made the call.
Rensje Teerink, who served as Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, is now serving as the Head of Division, Regional Affairs, ASEM and Indo-Pacific, European External Action Service.
Terming Rensje Teerink as a good friend and well-wisher of Bangladesh, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan sought her cooperation in changing the narrative of Bangladesh’s RMG industry in the European Union as she closely observed the development and transformation of the industry into a safe and sustainable one.
She was also requested to share the positive stories about the RMG industry she witnessed during her stay in Dhaka with key personnel in the European Union and relevant stakeholders.
In the meeting the BGMEA leaders also mentioned the request for support of the European Union in continuation of trade privileges for Bangladesh for 12 years after LDC graduation to facilitate smooth transition.
They expressed hope that Rensje Teerink would continue her friendly support to promote the interests of Bangladesh in the European Union.
