The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has been honored with Digital Bangladesh Award 2021 for its ‘Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System’.
BGMEA took the initiative of preparing a biometric database of apparel workers in 2013. The ‘Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System (Worker Database)’ stores workers’ records, including information related to their employment and identities in the local and cloud server databases.
Currently, this database is being used by about 2,500 member factories of BGMEA for more than 4 million workers every day.
The award was announced and handed over in an event held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka on December 12.
Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP, on behalf of the Prime Minister, handed over the crest to BGMEA President Faruque Hassan.
Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the program virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence.
Principal Secretary to the Hon'ble Prime Minister Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus was present at special guest.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said BGMEA made the Digital Worker Database considering the importance of accurate, credible and complete information of the workforce in the RMG sector, which is in alignment of the government’s vision of building Digital Bangladesh.
Mentionable here that BGMEA has been awarded the ‘WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards’ in Sustainable Growth/Circular Economy Award category by WITSA for using ‘Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System’ in 25th WCIT (World Congress on Information Technology).
