BGMEA has arranged a press briefing at the conference room of its Dhaka office today, 31 July 2014. At the press briefing the Acting President of BGMEA SM Mannan (Kochi) said that they have passed a sorrowful Eid this year as in spite of ensuring wages and Eid bonus of all the workers of almost 99 percent factories, they have observed that about 1400 workers of Tuba Group did not get their Eid bonus as well as their three months’ salary arrears.
“BGMEA has tried to ensure the Eid bonus and at least one month’s salary of the workers of the Tuba Group. But because of the fact that the owner of the group is currently behind the bars and the required money could not be arranged from the banks, eventually it was not possible to pay off the workers”, SM Mannan (Kochi) added.
The Managing Director of Tuba Group Delowar Hossain being refused his bail appeal was sent to prison after he had appeared on court on 9 February 2014 after the tragic fire incident at Tazreen Fashion, one of the sister concerns of Tuba Group.
Former BGMEA Presidents Tipu Munshi, MP and Abdus Salam Murshedy, Vice President of BGMEA Md. Shahidullah Azim and Vice President (Finance) of BGMEA Reaz-Bin-Mahmood were also present at the press briefing.
Bonus and salaries are the legitimate demand of the workers. “BGMEA fully supports the demand of the workers of the Tuba Group. It is continuing its efforts so that the Tuba workers receive their arrears and bonus within next seven working days.”
