Business community's procession with white flags

In their desperate bid to save industries from the ongoing political unrest, business leaders and members of business communities have brought out processions with white flags in the capital.

Arranged by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), all the business associations of the country such as Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Bangladesh Terry Towel & Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BTTLMEA), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), Sramik Somonnoy Parishad, Association of Covered Vans and Truck Owners, Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA), Bangladesh Textile & Garment Waste Processors and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Specialized Textile Mills and Powerloom Industry Association, Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association, Bangladesh PVC Pipe Manufacturers Association, Bangladesh Sugar Merchants Association, Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association, Bangladesh Glass Merchants Association, Bangladesh Jute Goods Association, Bangladesh Crockery Merchants Association, Courier Service Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Fertilizer Association etc. participated in the processions.

BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA, BTTLMEA leaders, garment owners and employees, with white flags in their hands, started a procession from in front of the BGMEA Complex at Karwan Bazar and reached the premise of FBCCI Bhaban at Motejeel after about an hour. Throughout the procession they chanted different slogans like ‘save the industry, save the country’, ‘stop violence and vandalism, establish peace’ etc.
Members of all other associations also gathered in front of the FBCCI Bhaban from different corners of the city with processions.
At a meeting followed by the procession BGMEA President Md Atiqul Islam said: “The political parties must avoid the path of violence and stop calling destructive political programs. Otherwise, the business leaders and all the people related to RMG sector would launch tougher movements in their desperate bid to save the industry.”
President of FBCCI Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed presided over the meeting. He urged the political parties to establish peace in the country, give them an atmosphere to do business. “If our businesses could survive, the country would survive,” he said.
