The Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association on Sunday launched a CD titled ‘Amader Gaan’ containing songs sung by garment workers who were winner of BGMEA Gorbo-2011 music contest at Radisson Hotel.
The finance minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, launched the CD and also inaugurated the music contest, BGMEA Gorbo-2012, with the participation of garment workers.
The finance minister said this contest would help to find out the new talents in the readymade garment sector.
He suggested that the garment factory owners should start the sub-contract business so that the RMG growth could reach at 50 per cent while the present growth of the sector was only 25 per cent.
The state minister for labour and employment, Monnujan Sufian, hailed the music contest programme and thanked the organisers to arrange this talent hunt contest and find out the talented singers from the sector.
US ambassador Dan W Mozena, lawmaker Israfil Alam, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Asif Ibrahim, BGMEA former president Abdus Salam Morshedy, Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry president AK Azad, EXIM bank chairman Najrul Islam Mazumdar, Jatiya Sramik Jote leader Shirin Akhter and ILO representative Lejo Sibbel spoke at  the event.
Dan W Mozena said, ‘I believe, Bangladesh should be the number one RMG leading country and to implement the dream, the owners, workers and the government should work together under the one umbrella.
Asif Ibrahim said, ‘We are thankful to the RMG workers to represent our country to other countries as we exported a lot.’
Roksana Khatun, one of the winners, expressed her gratitude to the BGMEA for organising the music contest and giving the opportunity to take part in the event.
Earlier, the BGMEA signed a memorandum of understanding with TV programme-producer Matra to organise the music contest ‘Gorbo- 2012’.
Under the MoU, Matra would assist BGMEA to organise and stage reality TV programme Gorbo-2012 as its event partner.
