Discussion on Working Conditions Transparency

BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir attended a panel discussion on “Working Conditions Transparency” jointly organized by C&A Foundation, Ethical Trading Initiative and Brac in Chittagong on 15 November.
The discussion was a part of the Transparency which aims to open an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss both the challenges and opportunities of greater transparency in the apparel industry.
Other panelists of the discussion were Md. Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan, Inspector General, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE); Kalpona Akter, Executive Director, Bangladesh Centre for Worker Solidarity (BCWS); Nazma Akter, General Secretary and Executive Director, Awaj Foundation; Borhan Uddin, Knowledge Management Officer, ILO, and Md. Moijibur Rhaman Bhuiyan, Chairperson, IndustriALL Bangladesh Council.
In his address Mohammed Nasir said that in the global supply chain transparency cannot be a standalone responsibility for the producers only. “I think a trusted, predictable and transparent relationship between the supply chain partners is the key.”
“Creating a level playing field across the global supply chain is important. Partial enforcement or adoption of transparency in particular region or country may potentially distort and divert trade,” he added.
