The newly elected office bearers of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association took over charges of the apparel exporters’ apex forum on Sunday.
At the 28th Annual General Meeting of BGMEA, its outgoing president Abdus Salam Murshedy handed over charges to Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) to lead the trade body for the next two years’ term.
Speaking at the function, the outgoing president said the new leaders of BGMEA would have to face many challenges despite global importers of apparels are intensifying their procurements from Bangladesh.
Mohiuddin, the new president, said development of skilled workforce and mid-level managers would be one of his top priorities.
Mohiuddin was elected the BGMEA president on March 23. Managing director of Onus Apparels, Mohiuddin contested the BGMEA polls held on March 20, contesting from Sammilito Parishad Panel that won all the 27 posts of director of the trade body.
Among other elected members, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, managing director of Eastern Apparels, has been elected first vice-president and Siddiqur Rahman, chairman of Sterling Group, second vice-president. Faruque Hassan, managing director of Giant Group, has been elected vice-president and SM Mannan Kochi, managing director of Sheha Design (BD) Ltd, also got the post of vice-president for finance .
