Nigerian government delegation meets BGMEA President, discusses trade potential

A delegation comprising high officials of different ministries of the Nigerian government paid a visit to BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at BGMEA Complex at Uttara in Dhaka on January 16.

The delegation included Abubakar Aliyu Aziz,

Director General, National Identity Management Commission; Engr. MaskaUbale Ahmed Shehi,

Executive Commissioner, Nigerian Communications Commission; Sahalu Balarabe Junaidu, Senior Research Officer and Special Staff to HM Pantami; Alhassan Haru,

Director, Nigerian Communications Commission; Gumi Aliyaa Abubakar, National Identity Management Commission; Affan Abuya Abubakar, Special Assistant to the HM on General duties & Chief of Staff to HM Pantami; and Roberts Moses Achanya, President of the NBTTF. 

BGMEA Director Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan, BKMEA Vice President Fazlee Shamim Ehsan and Managing Director of Fakir Fashion Ltd Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid were also present at the meeting. 

They had discussions about possible areas of collaboration between Bangladesh and Nigeria to derive bilateral trade benefits, particularly in the apparel and textile industry.

Faruque Hassan said there was potential to import more cotton from Nigeria which is a cotton-producing nation. 

Nigeria was also a potential market for Bangladesh’s RMG exports, he said. 

He called upon the Nigerian government to reduce import duty on RMG from Bangladesh and requested for cooperation from the delegation in this regard.

It would benefit both Bangladesh and Nigeria and create a win-win situation, Faruque Hassan added.
