The country's apparel manufacturers bagged export orders worth $61.67 million from the just concluded 23rd annual apparel show, organizers said today.
"Last year we got $66.35m but this year's export orders are less than last year. Hartal and present unstable political situation had an impact on this year's show," said Shafiul Islam, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Shafiul was speaking at a press conference to disclose the outcome of the three-day BATEXPO (Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition).
Last year, he said, the amount of spot and stock lot orders was $64.77 million and $1.58 million respectively. Orders this year were reduced by 4.68 million US dollars compared to the last year.
A total of 13180 visitors visited the fair venue in addition to 159 foreign buyers and 3,015 representatives, the BGMEA chief said.
The "23rd apparel show was concluded on December 14. It showcased products and services of local and foreign companies at 138 stalls.
