Textile Technology Business Center launched

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) has set up a Textile Technology Business Center (TTBC), the first of its kind in Bangladesh, at the BGMEA Complex, Dhaka.
The center was inaugurated on May 26 by Ms. Lilianne Ploumen, Honorable Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dhaka.
Gerben Sjoerd de Jong , Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, Md. Shahidullah Azim, Vice President of BGMEA, Kyle Kelhofer, the Country Manager of IFC Bangladesh, Md. Moshiul Azam (Shajal) and Mr. Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Directors of BGMEA were also present in the launching ceremony.
As a knowledge hub, one of the key roles of the TTBC will be to assist the textile industry in adopting resource efficiency measures including waste water and ground water management systems.
“The Netherlands aims to support RMG industry of Bangladesh in becoming more sustainable and globally competitive. Bringing in cleaner production practices and technologies that significantly reduce water consumption and effluent, will make the sector more resource-efficient and more competitive,” said Netherlands Minister Lilianne Ploumen.
“Launching the TTBC is an important step towards a sustainable garment industry,” said BGMEA Vice president Md. Shahidullah Azim.
