The Apparel News, an online portal focusing on garment and textile industry news, has formally started its journey on 10 June.
Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest while BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir, and Director of News, Ekattor TV Syed Ishtiaque Reza were present as special guests. 
Editor of the Bhorer Kagoj and also Advisory Editor of the Apparel News Shyamal Dutta presided over the inaugural program. Editor and Publisher of the online news portal Amit Biswas was also present.
BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir said that the RMG industry has been making significant contributions to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh but often many success and positive stories of the sector remain out of public knowledge. 
The industry has a lot of success stories, he said adding that the sector has become a role in model in ensuring world-class workplace safety in the industry.
“Our garment industry is gaining green. Besides, a good number of our garment factories individually have been engaged in CSR practices like offering treatment and medical facilities such as pathology tests, medicines to their workers and employees at free of cost, running day care centers for the children of workers, awarding stipends to the meritorious children of the workers, employing workers with disabilities, fair price shop to provide garment workers with daily essentials at a fair price etc.”
Mohammed Nasir hoped that the Apparel News would tell these stories along with other news on the apparel and textile industry.
