Vaccination of garment workers begins

Vaccination of garment workers in Gazipur started on July 18.

The vaccination program was inaugurated at Tusuka Denim Ltd at Konabari in Gazipur. 

A total of 10,000 garment workers from four factories have been vaccinated against Covid-19 on the first day of the vaccination program. The factories are: Sparrow Apparels Ltd, Rose Sweaters Ltd, Tusuka Denim Ltd and Tusuka Trousers Ltd. 

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Md. Jahangir Alam, Bangladesh Country Manager for Marks & Spencer Shwapna Bhowmick, Gazipur Civil Surgeon Md. Khairuzzaman, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur SM Tariqul Islam and CARE Bangladesh's Country Director Ramesh Singh were present at the program. 

Earlier, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) sent a letter to the government requesting to bring garment workers under vaccination on a priority basis, considering them as frontliners since they have been doing their jobs amid the pandemic to protect the economy of the country.

BGMEA leaders also met with the Health Minister and requested him for ensuring vaccines for the RMG workers on priority basis. 

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan expressed sincere thanks and gratitude towards Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina for bringing the garment workers under Covid-19 vaccination on a priority basis, considering them as frontliners.

He also thanked the Health Minister and Foreign Minister for their important role and efforts in ensuring vaccines for RMG workers.

He said mass people of Bangladesh have to be brought under vaccination to help the country’s economy to turn around and remain resilient. He requested all to follow health safety protocol, especially wearing mask to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection and spread.
