Workshop on productivity and occupational safety held
A stakeholder workshop on “Improving Productivity and Occupational Health and Safety in the RMG sector of Bangladesh” was held in Dhaka on May 30.
Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) in collaboration with Aalborg University of Denmark organized the workshop which was supported by Aalborg-AUST Research Project.
Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh Hanne Fugl Eskjær and Acting President of BGMEA Faruque Hassan attended the program as chief guest and special guest respectively.
Prof. Peter Hasle of Aalborg University, presented the keynote speech at the workshop which was chaired by AUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. AMM Safiullah.
In his speech Acting President of BGMEA Faruque Hassan said that the RMG industry of Bangladesh has made tremendous progress in workplace safety, awareness and other occupational safety and health issues.
He said: “Garment factories in Bangladesh are now not only socially complaint but also have many praiseworthy CSR practices. Many of the factories are already offering medical facilities such as pathology tests, medicines to their workers and employees at free of cost.”
Faruque Hassan thanked Industrial Production Centre of Aalborg University, Denmark along with Mechanical and Production Engineering Department of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), BUFT and Jagannath University (JNU), for working on this very important topic.
He also thanked DANIDA of Denmark for funding the large-scale research project for investigating and developing workplace health, safety and productivity of garment factories in Bangladesh.
