Vice President (Finance) of BGMEA Mohammed Nasir said that the readymade garment industry of Bangladesh, the lifeblood of the country's economy, though started in the 80s in an unplanned way is now a role model in the world in terms of workplace safety and social compliance.
He made the remark on 6 December while addressing the inaugural program of a national seminar on ‘Social Compliance in the Readymade Garments Sector of Bangladesh’ organized by the Department of Industrial Relations and Labour Studies of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Dhaka University as a Special Guest.
President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) was the Chief Guest at the program.
Professor Dr. Tania Rahman, Director of Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Dhaka University, Shibbir Mahmud, President of Bangladesh Label Manufacturers & Exporters Association, and Ali Hossain Shishir, Managing Director & CEO of Sonali Group were also present as Special Guests at the program. Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani, Program Co-ordinator of the Industrial Relations and Labour Studies, chaired the inaugural program which was followed by two seminars.
