The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Fred Hollows Foundation and Sightsavers to improve the eye health of ready-made Garment (RMG) workers on 14 June 2026. 

The primary goal of this partnership is to conduct comprehensive eye screenings for garment workers and distribute corrective eyeglasses completely free of cost. 

Implemented on a pilot basis across selected factories, the initiative will also distribute specialized eye screening equipment. Furthermore, factory medical officers and medical assistants will receive professional training to conduct efficient, on-site eye screenings.

Inamul Haq Khan, Senior Vice President of BGMEA, officially signed the agreement on behalf of the association. The signing ceremony was also attended by BGMEA Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan and Director Ms. Samiha Azim. 

Representing the partner organizations, Musabbir Alam, Cluster Director for South Asia and the Middle East, signed the MoU on behalf of The Fred Hollows Foundation. Key representatives present at the event included Zeehan Abedin, Head of Programs at The Fred Hollows Foundation; AKM Badrul Huq, Senior Program Manager at The Fred Hollows Foundation; and B M Zahidul Islam, Program Manager for Eye Health at Sightsavers.
