BGMEA Acting President Inamul Haq Khan spoke as the key panelist at the Control Union Sustainability Conference 2025, held on 26 November in Dhaka. The event was attended by representatives from industry, government, NGOs, and various stakeholders, who shared their insights and experiences on building a transparent, ethical, and sustainable supply chain.
Inamul Haq Khan stated that international buyers now prioritize the expansion of renewable energy use, reduction of carbon emissions, and modernization of production systems in factories. However, implementing these transformations requires significant investment, which remains a major challenge for many factories due to high interest rates and limited access to long-term green financing.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s sustainability progress, he noted that the country is now a global leader in the number of environment-friendly green factories. Bangladesh already has 268 LEED-certified garment factories, demonstrating worldwide recognition of its sustainable production capacity.
Explaining BGMEA’s vision, he said that Bangladesh’s key objective is to shift from a traditional linear production structure to a circular model. To achieve this, he emphasized three priorities:
1. Ensuring inclusive sustainability by engaging small and medium factories;
2. Making the circular economy commercially viable through proper policy incentives;
3. Establishing genuine buyer–supplier partnerships where the cost and responsibility of sustainability are shared rather than placed solely on factories.
He expressed hope that with collective efforts, Bangladesh will build an even stronger, modern, and sustainable position in the global apparel supply chain.
