Today (14 January 2026), BGMEA Acting President Salim Rahman attended as a special guest at the inauguration ceremony of the 14th exhibition of accessories and packaging products for the ready-made garment industry, “GapExpo,” held in Dhaka.
In his speech, he highlighted the significant contribution of backward linkage industries to the success of Bangladesh’s industrial sector. He emphasized the importance of enhancing capacity to produce high-quality accessories and packaging materials to meet the demands of the country’s garment industry, as well as increasing export earnings through these products. He stated that as Bangladesh moves forward with the target of achieving USD 100 billion in garment export earnings, this sector must play a crucial role.
Salim Rahman further noted that Bangladesh is gradually progressing towards the production of higher-value garments. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen capabilities for producing more advanced accessories and packaging materials accordingly. He stressed the importance of meeting these demands from domestic industries through direct nomination by buyers, adding that such products can be manufactured locally. For this, he said, investment, joint ventures, and policy support from the government are necessary.
