The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), in association with the EU-funded Technical Assistance to Social Protection Budget Support (TA-SPBS), organized an Orientation Workshop for Factory Management of BGMEA Member Factories on the Unemployed Workers’ Protection Programme (UWPP) and Labour Information Management System (LIMS) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE).

Held today at the BGMEA Complex, Dhaka, the workshop aimed to strengthen factory-level understanding of UWPP eligibility, registration, beneficiary identification, documentation, implementation procedures, and the effective use of LIMS.

The program commenced with welcome remarks by Ahmed Jabed, Chairman, Standing Committee, Skill Development Programme (SDP), BGMEA, who highlighted the importance of stronger institutional coordination and worker support. 

Ms. Valentina, Program Manager, European Union, provided an overview of the initiative and emphasized coordinated efforts to strengthen social protection. Ms. Tahmina Begum, Director, Central Fund & Joint Secretary, MoLE, briefed participants on UWPP facilities, eligibility, implementation and stakeholder responsibilities. 

Nafis Ud Doula, Director, BGMEA, highlighted the importance of Central Fund initiatives and continued investment in workforce development and worker welfare. 

Representatives from TA-SPBS conducted a detailed technical session on UWPP, covering eligibility, beneficiary selection, registration and required documentation, while Al Amin, Assistant Inspector General, DIFE, led the session on LIMS and emphasized the importance of accurate labour information management. The program concluded with remarks from Mahbubul, Advisor, GIZ.

The program was moderated by Saila Akther Nova, Deputy Secretary & Section-In-Charge, Skill Development Programme (SDP), BGMEA.
