BGMEA Vice President Highlights Challenges and Solutions for Bangladesh’s Textile Industry at EU Digital Product Passport Forum

BGMEA Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan participated in a key panel discussion at the "Forum for EU Trade: Spotlight on Digital Product Passport" held recently in Dhaka.

The forum, organized by the Ministry of Commerce, and supported by GIZ, focused on the challenges and opportunities for Bangladesh's textile industry in adapting to new European Union (EU) regulations, particularly the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the Digital Product Passport (DPP).

In her address, Vidiya Amrit Khan underscored the significant challenges facing the sector. She highlighted the critical need to focus not only on large players but also on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), many of which are not yet fully aware of the DPP's implications.

Her recommendations for addressing these challenges included a call for concrete steps from the government in light of Bangladesh's graduation from LDC status. She stressed the necessity of creating an actual instrument for data collection, along with the need for skilled personnel to handle this data and access to financing for these initiatives.
