On 27 June 2026, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the ‘HSBC-AUW School of Apparel’ of Asian University for Women (AUW) jointly organized a special event titled “Industry Placement, Recruitment and Talent Development.” The event aimed to develop skilled human resources for the ready-made garment (RMG) industry, promote women’s leadership development, and strengthen collaboration between industry and academia.
Hon’ble Commerce Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Khandakar Abdul Muktadir attended the event as the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, Dr. Rubana Huq, Vice Chancellor of AUW and former President of BGMEA attended as a special guest.
Among the invited guests were Kihak Sung, Chairman of Youngone Corporation; Kamal Ahmed, Founder of Asian University for Women; Kutubuddin Ahmed, former President of BGMEA; and representatives from HSBC Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned that the HSBC-AUW School of Apparel was established at Asian University for Women with the aim of creating a pipeline of highly skilled women professionals for Bangladesh’s RMG industry. The event featured productive discussions on internship opportunities for students, graduate recruitment, and the future development of the country’s apparel sector.
Among the BGMEA leaders present were First Vice President Salim Rahman, Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim, Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Vice President Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, Directors, and Chairmen of various Standing Committees.
The event was also attended by leading RMG industry leaders, BGMEA members, prominent apparel entrepreneurs, representatives of international brands, and faculty members and students of Asian University for Women.
