A delegation from Kmart met with Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of BGMEA on August 11.
The delegation included Tristram Grey, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer of Kmart; Albert Yeung, Head of Ethical Sourcing; and Obyad Gazi, Ethical Sourcing Manager for Kmart Australia & New Zealand and Target Australia.
The main objective of the meeting was to explore opportunities for collaboration in building a more sustainable garment industry.
The meeting, held at BGMEA Complex in Dhaka, was also attended by BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim, Vice President (Finance) Md. Mijanur Rahman, Vice President Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, Directors Faisal Samad, Nafis-Ud-Doula, and Sheikh Hossain Muhammad Mustafiz.
During the discussion, Tristram Grey emphasized that Kmart values its long-standing business relationship with Bangladesh and is committed to strengthening collaboration in new areas in the future.
Australia is a promising market for Bangladesh which now enjoys duty-free access to the Australian market. Both sides discussed strategies to increase apparel exports from Bangladesh to Australia.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan called on Kmart to deepen its partnership with its supplier factories in Bangladesh to help them enhance their capabilities in producing a more diverse range of products.
The meeting also included discussions on organizing trade fairs in Australia and sending trade delegations as part of efforts to expand Bangladesh’s market presence in the country.
