Strategic Meeting Between BGMEA and China Dyeing & Printing Association: Call for Chinese Investment and Technology Transfer in the Textile Sector

A high-level 20-member delegation from the China Dyeing and Printing Association (CDPA) held a bilateral meeting today (Sunday) with leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

The Chinese delegation included senior officials from the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and CDPA, along with chairmen and general managers of leading dyeing, printing, finishing, and chemical manufacturing companies.

The meeting held on 26 April 2026 at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, was led by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan. BGMEA Vice President Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, Directors Majumdar Arifur Rahman, Rumana Rashid, and Mohammed Sohel also participated in the discussion.

Key areas of collaboration and investment were discussed, particularly focusing on China’s support and direct investment in modernizing Bangladesh’s textile sector.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan described China as a long-standing and trusted trade partner of Bangladesh and a major source of raw materials and machinery for the apparel industry. He urged Chinese investors to explore emerging sectors in Bangladesh, especially man-made fibers (MMF), synthetic fibers, and technical textiles. He highlighted that Bangladesh’s annual import market for woven fabrics, valued at USD 8–9 billion, presents a unique opportunity for Chinese investors.

He further noted that Chinese entrepreneurs could invest in these promising sectors either independently or through joint ventures, with full strategic support from BGMEA. He also mentioned that due to the EPA agreement between Bangladesh and Japan, Chinese investors establishing operations in Bangladesh—independently or jointly—would be able to export to Japan with duty-free market access.

The BGMEA President emphasized the importance of technology transfer between entrepreneurs of both countries. He called for regular technical training and knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance capabilities in advanced technologies such as digital printing and synthetic fabrics. Discussions also covered leveraging China’s advanced expertise in establishing environmentally sustainable dyeing factories to further strengthen the sustainability of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.

During the meeting, BGMEA requested the Chinese delegation to share company profiles and production capacity details of the participating firms to facilitate direct business linkages and enable dissemination of this information among BGMEA members.

It is noteworthy that the visiting Chinese delegation also toured dyeing and printing factories in Bangladesh. BGMEA assured its full cooperation in this regard.

In conclusion, both sides expressed strong commitment to working together to achieve sustainable development and mutual prosperity in the textile and apparel industries of both countries.
