BGMEA Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan participated as a distinguished speaker at a national consultation on the draft Bangladesh National Strategy on Circular Economy for the Textile and Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector.
The event was organized by UNIDO and the Ministry of Commerce of Bangladesh on 23 April, in collaboration with Chatham House, under the Switch to Circular Economy Value Chains (SWITCH2CE) project, co-funded by the European Union and the Government of Finland.
In her address, Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan emphasized that after nearly three years of work on the SWITCH2CE project, the focus must shift from dialogue to implementation. According to her, Bangladesh’s RMG sector now urgently needs a robust policy framework and clear government regulations to accelerate its transition toward a circular economy.
The discussion was also addressed by Abdur Rahim Khan, Secretary (in charge), Ministry of Commerce; Mark Draeck, SWITCH2CE Chief Technical Adviser at UNIDO, Dr. Patrick Schröder, Senior Researcher at Chatham House; and Hubert Blom, Attaché - Programme Manager, Climate Change-Green Inclusive Development, EU Delegation in Bangladesh.
