দেশে প্রথমবারের মতো ওয়ার্ল্ড ফ্যাশন কনভেনশন নভেম্বরে আগামী নভেম্বরে দেশে প্রথমবারের মতো ৩৭তম ওয়ার্ল্ড ফ্যাশন কনভেনশন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। দেশের পোশাক খাতকে আরও ব্যান্ডিং করতে একইসঙ্গে সপ্তাহব্যাপী মেইড ইন বাংলাদেশ উইক পালিত হবে। ১২ থেকে ১৮ নভেম্বর ঢাকায় ৩৭তম আইএএফ ফ্যাশন কনভেশন, ৩৭তম ঢাকা অ্যাপারেল সামিট, ঢাকা অ্যাপারেল এক্সপজিশন, ডেনিম এক্সোসহ বিভিন্ন অ্যাওয়ার্ড প্রদান অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। শনিবার (১৪ মে) রাজধানীর ওয়েস্টিন হোটেলে এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়। এক প্রশ্নের উত্তরে আইএএফের সেক্রেটারি ম্যাথিজস ক্রিয়েটি বলেন, ৩৭তম ওয়ার্ল্ড ফ্যাশন কনভেনশনে ১০০ থেকে ১৫০ বায়ার কিংবা বায়ার প্রতিষ্ঠান অংশ নেবে।

ঢাকায় আইএএফ ওয়ার্ল্ড ফ্যাশন কনভেনশন ও মেইড ইন বাংলাদেশ উইক নভেম্বরে চলতি বছরের নভেম্বরে বাংলাদেশে অনুষ্ঠিত হতে যাচ্ছে ৩৭তম আইএএফ ওয়ার্ল্ড ফ্যাশন কনভেনশন। একইসঙ্গে ১২-১৮ নভেম্বর ঢাকায় 'মেইড ইন বাংলাদেশ উইক' অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। ইন্টারন্যাশনাল অ্যাপারেল ফেডারেশন (আইএএফ),বিজিএমইএ এবং বিকেএমইএ সহযোগিতায় এই কনভেনশনের আয়োজিত হবে।  শনিবার ঢাকায় এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এ ঘোষণা দেন বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি ফারুক হাসান ও আইএএফ মহাসচিব ম্যাথিয়াস ক্রিয়েটি। সংবাদ সম্মেলনে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিকেএমইএ সহ-সভাপতি ফজলে শামীম এহসান। বিজিএমইএ পরিচালক মো. মহিউদ্দিন রুবেলের সঞ্চালনায় সংবাদ সম্মেলনে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিজিএমইএ'র প্রথম সহ-সভাপতি সৈয়দ নজরুল ইসলাম, সহ-সভাপতি মো. শহিদউল্লাহ আজিম, সহ-সভাপতি খন্দকার রফিকুল ইসলাম, সহ-সভাপতি মো. নাসির উদ্দিন, সহ-সভাপতি মিরান আলী, সহ-সভাপতি রাকিবুল আলম চৌধুরী, পরিচালক ব্যারিস্টার শেহরিন সালাম ঐশী, পরিচালক আসিফ আশরাফ, পরিচালক মো. খসরু চৌধুরী, পরিচালক ব্যারিস্টার ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান, পরিচালক ইনামুল হক খান (বাবলু), পরিচালক মো. ইমরানুর রহমান, পরিচালক হোসনে আরা নীলা এবং বিকেএমইএ সহ-সভাপতি আখতার হোসেন অপূর্ব।

পোশাক শিল্পের দ্যুতি বিশ্বকে দেখাতে ঢাকায় বিশাল আয়োজন সংবাদ সম্মেলনে আইএফএ এর মহাসচিব ম্যাথিয়াস ক্রিয়েটি বলেন, ‘গত কয়েক বছর ধরে পোশাক রপ্তানিতে বাংলাদেশ অভূতপূর্ব সাফল্য দেখিয়ে চলেছে। বাংলাদেশ এখন বিশেশ্বর দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম পোশাক রপ্তানিকারক দেশ। আগের যে কোনো সময়ের চেয়ে এখানকার পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারকরা শিল্প রূপান্তরে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করছেন। ‘তাই সার্বিক বিষয় বিবেচনায় নিয়েই আমরা ৩৭তম আইএএফ ওয়ার্ল্ড ফ্যাশন কনভেনশন বাংলাদেশে আয়োজন করছি। এই আন্তর্জাতিক মঞ্চে বাংলাদেশের পোশাক মালিকরা তাদের শিল্পের বর্তমান অবস্থা ও ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনা তুলে ধরার পাশাপাশি প্রধান চ্যালেঞ্জগুলো সমাধানের পথও খুঁজে পাবেন।’

37th IAF World Fashion Convention to be held in Dhaka in November BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has said it is now time for them to leapfrog to the next level of growth as they have achieved a certain level of growth and momentum. "Our progress and prospects have made us one of the most sustainable sourcing partners to the west and we have to work harder for safeguarding it," he said. The BGMEA chief made the remarks on Saturday at a press conference while announcing that the 37th IAF World Fashion Convention will be held in Dhaka in November this year. The International Apparel Federation (IAF) will host the Convention in collaboration with the BGMEA and the BKMEA. The "Made in Bangladesh Week" will be held concurrently in Dhaka on November 12-18.

‘RMG export earnings to exceed $41b in current fiscal’ Ready-made garment (RMG) industry insiders expressed the hope that the country’s RMG export earnings would exceed USD 41 billion within this fiscal and its world share would stand at 10 percent by the end of 2025. BGMEA president Faruque Hassan came up with such assertion while speaking at a press briefing at a city hotel on Saturday. BGMEA organised the press briefing on the 37th IAF World Fashion Convention scheduled to be held in Dhaka from November 12 to November 18 this year. BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, vice presidents Shahidullah Azim, Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Md Nasir Uddin, Miran Ali and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, among others, were present at the press conference, moderated by BGMEA Director Mohiuddin Rubel.

Bangladesh will surpass over 10% of the global RMG market by 2025 The share of Bangladesh's export in the global apparel market will surpass 10% by 2025, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturer and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Faruque Hassan said on Saturday. He also said that the percentage will be 7.5% at the end of the current fiscal year 2021-22, while exports may reach $41 billion, he also said. Secretary general of IAF Matthijs Crietee said that perhaps more than ever before, garment manufacturers play a pivotal role in the industry transformation.

The Russia-Ukraine war has led to an increase in food and oil prices while the risk of an economic recession is also increasing in several countries, including those in Europe, said BGMEA President Faruque Hassan. Entrepreneurs are struggling with rising production costs and supply chain challenges, he told a press conference organised by the BGMEA at The Westin Dhaka marking the upcoming 37th IAF World Fashion Convention.

Patenga Container Terminal operation: Top RMG buyers lobby for contracting Maersk Big-name global apparel buyers are lobbying for awarding the operation contract of the newly built Patenga Container Terminal to Denmark-headquartered logistic service-provider AP Møller-Maersk, better known as Maersk Line. Two of them-Sweden-based H&M and Spain-based Inditex-recently wrote to the ministry of shipping for providing the job to Maersk, as operations at the terminal are set to start soon, preferably in July next. According to BGMEA ratings, H&M is the largest buyer of Bangladeshi apparel products while Inditex is in second or third position. However, BGMEA vice-president Shahidullah Azim is not in favour of awarding the task to any shipping line. "If awarded, they will do monopoly business. They are responsible for the present freight-cost hike," he says. "We don't want to be hostage to any," the leading apparel-industry owner asserts about their stance, emboldened by the recent jacking up of shipping charges.

Bangladesh’s global RMG export share to reach 10% by 2025 Bangladesh’s apparel export share to the global market is expected to reach 10 per cent in 2025, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan has said. “At the end of the CY 2022, the percentage is likely to reach 7.5 per cent,” BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said at a press conference in Dhaka on Saturday. He also expects apparel export to surge to $41 billion at the end of the current fiscal year.

Bangladesh exporters to use India ports as Colombo can’t handle traffic Shipments of Bangladesh’s export goods are getting delayed in the Colombo Port because of the ongoing political turmoil in Sri Lanka where around 2,000 trade unions went on strike in the past weeks. “Some 10-12 percent of the consignments are getting delayed in the port, but port activities in Colombo are not halted totally,” Faruque Hassan, president of the BGMEA) told the Business Insider Bangladesh on Saturday.

বৈশ্বিক পোশাকের বাজারে বাংলাদেশের হিস্যা বাড়বে আগামী সাড়ে তিন বছরের মধ্যে বৈশ্বিক তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিতে বাংলাদেশের হিস্যা (মার্কেট শেয়ার) ১০ শতাংশ ছাড়িয়ে যাবে বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন তৈরি পোশাকশিল্প মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএর সভাপতি ফারুক হাসান। ফারুক হাসান বলেছেন, বিশ্ব বাণিজ্য সংস্থার (ডব্লিউটিও) হিসাবে বৈশ্বিক পোশাক রপ্তানিতে ২০২০ সালে বাংলাদেশের হিস্যা ছিল ৬ দশমিক ২৩ শতাংশ। সে বছর করোনার কারণে প্রায় দেড় মাস পোশাক কারখানা বন্ধ ছিল। গত বছরের হিসাবটি ডব্লিউটিও এখনো প্রকাশ করেনি। আমাদের প্রত্যাশা, ২০২১ সালে বাংলাদেশের হিস্যা ছিল সাড়ে ৭ শতাংশ। ২০২৫ সালের শেষ নাগাদ তৈরি পোশাকের বৈশ্বিক বাজারে বাংলাদেশের হিস্যা ১০ শতাংশ ছাড়িয়ে যাবে বলে মন্তব্য করেন তিনি।

EU wants Bangladesh to quickly amend EPZ Labour Act The European Union (EU) has urged Bangladesh to quickly amend the EPZ Labour Act for Bangladesh to retain the Everything but Arms (EBA) facility, which allows duty-free and quota-free access to the EU market. Bangladesh enacted a new law for the export processing zones in 2019. Currently a draft of a set of rules based on the law is at the law ministry for vetting. Bangladesh wants to formulate a new law once the new rules are in effect.

শ্রীলঙ্কার বিক্ষোভে বিপাকে বাংলাদেশের পোশাক শিল্প শ্রীলঙ্কায় সরকার পতন আন্দোলন শুরুর পর অন্যান্যদের মতো কলম্বো বন্দরের কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীরাও ধর্মঘটে যাওয়ায় বাইরের জাহাজ থেকে পণ্য খালাস করার মতো জনবল সেখানে নেই। ফলে বাংলাদেশ থেকে যাওয়া কার্গোজাহাজগুলো তাদের পণ্য খালাস করতে না পেরে আটকে আছে। বর্তমানে কলম্বোর বন্দরে এমন অন্তত ১০টি গার্মেন্ট পণ্যভর্তি কার্গো জাহাজ আটকে আছে বলে ফিন্যান্সিয়াল এক্সপ্রেসকে জানিয়েছে দেশের গার্মেন্ট মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ। কয়েক মাস আগে শ্রীলঙ্কায় জ্বালানি সংকট শুরু হওয়ার পর থেকে বন্দরের কার্যক্রম সীমিত হয়ে যাওয়ায় এ অচলাবস্থা দেখা দিয়েছে বলে জানান বিজিএমইএ নেতারা।

Their representatives made the observation on the sideline of Sustainable Apparel Forum 2022 held in Dhaka on Tuesday, reports RMG Bangladesh.

১৭ মে থেকে বেনাপোল বন্দরে অনির্দিষ্টকালের ধর্মঘট দেশের বৃহৎ স্থলবন্দর বেনাপোলে প্রয়োজনীয় ক্রেন, ফর্কলিফটের অভাবে পণ্য লোড-আনলোড ব্যাহত হওয়ার প্রতিবাদে আগামী ১৭ মে থেকে অনির্দিষ্টকালের ধর্মঘটের ঘোষণা দিয়েছে বেনাপোল ট্রান্সপোর্ট এজেন্সি মালিক সমিতি। আজ সোমবার বেনাপোল ট্রান্সপোর্ট এজেন্সি মালিক সমিতি সাধারণ সম্পাদক আজিম উদ্দিন গাজী দ্য ডেইলি স্টারকে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন। তিনি আরও জানান, দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বেনাপোল বন্দরের অধিকাংশ ক্রেন, ফর্কলিফট অকেজো পড়ে থাকায় পণ্য লোড-আনলোড ব্যাহত হচ্ছিল। বন্দর ব্যবহারকারী সংগঠনসহ পণ্য পরিবহনকারী সংগঠন বেনাপোল ট্রান্সপোর্ট এজেন্সি মালিক সমিতি নতুন ক্রেন ফর্কলিফটের দাবিতে বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষকে আল্টিমেটাম দিয়ে আসছিল।
