নেদারল্যান্ডসের সহযোগিতা চায় বিজিএমইএ পোশাক খাতের উন্নয়নে নেদারল্যান্ডসের সহযোগিতা চেয়েছে তৈরি পোশাক মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ। গতকাল বুধবার ঢাকার একটি হোটেলে নেদারল্যান্ডসের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের আন্তর্জাতিক সহযোগিতাবিষয়ক ডেপুটি ডিরেক্টর জেনারেল বিরগিটা তাজেলার সঙ্গে সাক্ষাতে সংগঠনের সভাপতি ফারুক হাসান এ সহযোগিতা চেয়েছেন। সাক্ষাতে তারা তৈরি পোশাকশিল্পের বর্তমান পরিস্থিতি, বিশেষ করে শিল্প কীভাবে কভিড-১৯ মহামারী সৃষ্ট নজিরবিহীন প্রভাব মোকাবিলা করেছে, তা নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন।

Bangladesh should focus on non-cotton RMG items The ready-made garment industry of Bangladesh should focus on non-cotton items to meet the global demand, said the country's apparel sector leader. “Now the world is moving to non-cotton items including man-made fibre garment. Around 75 percent of global demand is non-cotton. Bangladesh has only 25 percent non-cotton items in its export basket,” Faruque Hassan, President of BGMEA told an inaugural ceremony of a textile expo in Dhaka on Wednesday. CEMS Global organised the Textech Bangladesh International Expo for 21st time to connect local and international entrepreneurs in garment and backward linkage industries. Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi inaugurated the four-day expo at ICCB in the capital.

Over 29pc RMG factories paid extra money to qualify for compliance standards Over 29 per cent of the readymade garment factories surveyed had to pay inspectors additional money to be eligible for compliant ones, a joint study has revealed. "The survey found that, during the high export growth period (September 2021 to March 2022), overall, 29.3 per cent of the surveyed factories had to pay additional money to the inspector to be eligible as compliant factories, which is illegal," read the findings of the study. The findings of the study titled 'Debate on Recent Export Growth and Decent Employment in RMG Industry: A UNGPs Perspective' by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and Christian Aid (CA) were shared on Wednesday at a dialogue held at the BRAC Centre Inn in the capital.

Experts: Apparel workers still far from earning a living wage Apparel workers are far from earning a living wage still, said experts on Wednesday. “Workers are not earning a minimum wage while inflation has driven up prices of everything from food, goods and services,” said Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Shahidullah Azim, vice-president of the BGMEA said that they should work together for a living wage. “Labour leaders should negotiate with buyers to pay more for a living wage to workers. Otherwise, factory owners will not be able to pay that alone,” he added.

PRI: Bangladesh's exports can rise more than 7% if logistics costs go down By reducing domestic logistics costs by 17% it is possible to increase Bangladesh's exports by 7.4%, however, 35% of products get damaged in ports due to infrastructural deficiencies, experts said on Wednesday. They were speaking at a roundtable “Improving trade facilitation for export competitiveness: Progress, Lessons and policy priorities for Bangladesh” organized by Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI).

২০২১-২২ অর্থবছরে রফতানি আয়ে ডলার প্রাপ্তি ১৯.৪৪% কম ছিল গত ২০২১-২২ অর্থবছরে ইতিহাসে প্রথমবারের মতো ৫০ বিলিয়ন (৫ হাজার কোটি) ডলারের মাইলফলক ছাড়িয়েছে বাংলাদেশের রফতানি। রপ্তানি উন্নয়ন ব্যুরোর (ইপিবি) পরিসংখ্যান অনুযায়ী গত অর্থবছরের ১২ মাসে বিশ্ববাজারে বাংলাদেশ থেকে পণ্য রফতানি হয়েছে ৫২ বিলিয়ন ডলারেরও বেশি। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের পরিসংখ্যানে দেখা যাচ্ছে, পণ্য রফতানি বাবদ ব্যাংকিং চ্যানেলে দেশে আসা প্রাপ্ত অর্থের পরিমাণ ৪৩ বিলিয়ন বা ৪ হাজার ৩৬০ কোটি ডলার। জানতে চাইলে বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের সিনিয়র সচিব তপন কান্তি ঘোষ বণিক বার্তাকে বলেন, এনবিআরের মাধ্যমে পাওয়া ইপিবির তথ্য পণ্য জাহাজীকরণের। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের তথ্য রফতানি বাবদ প্রত্যাবাসিত অর্থের। এ দুই তথ্যে একটা পার্থক্য থাকে। বিভিন্ন কারণে কিছু অর্থ হয়তো ফেরত আসে না। পার্থক্য অনেক বেশি হলে তার কারণ খতিয়ে দেখার প্রয়োজন রয়েছে।
