Explore New Markets For Export Items: PM Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday underlined the need for expanding the markets for the country’s export products. “In order to boost exports the markets for our products should be expanded along with their diversification ,” Hasina said. The prime minister made the remarks when a delegation from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by President Faruque Hassan, paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in Dhaka on February 11. She asked the business people to pay special attention on the quality of the products. The delegation included Tipu Munshi MP, former Commerce Minister and President of BGMEA; Abdus Salam Murshedy MP, former President of BGMEA; Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, former Member of Parliament and President of BGMEA; and Md. Siddiqur Rahman, former President of BGMEA, and current Industries and Trade Affairs Secretary of the Awami League as well as current First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, Senior Vice President S. M. Mannan (Kochi), Vice Presidents Shahidullah Azim, Md. Nasir Uddin, Miran Ali, and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, Directors Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee, Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan and Neela Hosna Ara.

প্রণোদনা ফিরে পেতে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর দ্বারস্থ গার্মেন্ট মালিকরা তৈরি পোশাক শিল্পের হারানো প্রণোদনা ফিরে পেতে এবার প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার দ্বারস্থ হলেন দেশের তৈরি পোশাক শিল্প মালিকরা। একই বিষয়ে সহযোগিতা চেয়ে গতকাল রোববার প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে দেখ করেছেন বিজিএমইএ নেতারা। আর গতকাল প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কার্যালয়ে চিঠি দিয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত বদলের অনুরোধ জানান বিকেএমইএর নেতারা। এ সময় পোশাক খাতের উদ্যোক্তারা বলেন, প্রণোদনা প্রত্যাহার সংক্রান্ত সার্কুলার শিল্পকেই হুমকির মধ্যে ফেলে দিয়েছে, মারাত্মক বিপদের সম্মুখীন হয়েছেন শিল্প উদ্যোক্তারা। এর মাধ্যমে নিটওয়্যার খাতে ৮০ শতাংশের ওপরে রফতানি ভর্তুকি বন্ধ করা হয়েছে। বিজিএমইএ নেতারা পোশাক শিল্পের উন্নয়নে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সহযোগিতা কামনা করেন। প্রতিনিধি দলে ছিলেন সাবেক বাণিজ্যমন্ত্রী ও বিজিএমইএর সাবেক সভাপতি টিপু মুনশি, বিজিএমইএর সাবেক সভাপতি আবদুস সালাম মুর্শেদী এমপি, সাবেক সভাপতি ও সাবেক সংসদ সদস্য শফিউল ইসলাম মহিউদ্দিন, সাবেক সভাপতি এবং আওয়ামী লীগের শিল্প ও বাণিজ্য সম্পাদক মো. সিদ্দিকুর রহমান, বিজিএমইএর বর্তমান বোর্ডের প্রথম সহ-সভাপতি সৈয়দ নজরুল ইসলাম, সিনিয়র সহ-সভাপতি এস এম মান্নান (কচি), সহ-সভাপতি শহিদউল্লাহ আজিম, সহ-সভাপতি মো. নাসির উদ্দিন, সহ-সভাপতি মিরান আলী, সহ-সভাপতি রাকিবুল আলম চৌধুরী, পরিচালক ব্যারিস্টার শেহরিন সালাম ঐশী, পরিচালক ব্যারিস্টার ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান ও পরিচালক নীলা হোসনে আরা।

Airfreight rate nearly doubles in a month Shahidullah Azim, vice president, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), told the FE Sunday the airfreight rate increased as pressure of goods in air transportation increased as shipping the same would require an additional three weeks. "The major reason for rise in air shipment is war-zone-risk alert in the Red Sea and war in the Middle East which enhanced transit time for ships by an extra 25 days and so buyers ask to send goods by air," he said. However, Mr Azim said, in this case buyers themselves bear the additional costs involved. "But when manufacturers send goods by air due to their own delay, they pay from their own pocket," he said.
