PM directs correction of export data Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday instructed the commerce ministry to correct the mismatch in export data in reports prepared by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Both the NBR and EPB were asked to sit in meeting soon to correct the export data and make it uniform, she said in reply to a journalist's query during a press conference regarding her visit to China at the Gonobhaban in Dhaka. The discrepancy in export data came to the spotlight after the Bangladesh Bank (BB) published figures of the balance of payment for July-April period of fiscal 2023-24, saying that actual exports in the first 10 months of the fiscal year were nearly $14 billion below the value earlier published by the EPB.

বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিব রপ্তানি ট্রফি পেল রিফাত গার্মেন্টস সর্বোচ্চ বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা অর্জনকারী প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিব রপ্তানি ট্রফি (স্বর্ণ) পেয়েছে হা–মীম গ্রুপের প্রতিষ্ঠান রিফাত গার্মেন্টস লিমিটেড। রোববার প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা রাজধানীর ওসমানী স্মৃতি মিলনায়তনে রপ্তানি খাতের সবচেয়ে সম্মানজনক এ পদক হা–মীম গ্রুপের পরিচালক সাজিদ আজাদের হাতে তুলে দেন। অনুষ্ঠানে ২০২১-২২ অর্থবছরে রপ্তানিতে অবদানের জন্য মোট ৭৭ প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রতিনিধিদের হাতে জাতীয় রপ্তানি ট্রফি তুলে দেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী। ব্যবসায়ী ও উদ্যোক্তাদের উদ্দেশে প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, ‘আমাদের কিন্তু নতুন সুযোগ আছে। মধ্যপ্রাচ্য, আফ্রিকা, দক্ষিণ ও দক্ষিণ পূর্ব–এশিয়া এবং পূর্ব ইউরোপের দেশগুলোতে আমাদের রপ্তানি বহুমুখীকরণ করতে পারব। এই সুযোগটা আমাদের নিতে হবে। এজন্য আমরা এরই মধ্যে কাজ করছি। মাঝে মাঝে প্রতিনিধিও পাঠাচ্ছি এসব জায়গায়।’

Sometimes we have to adjust prices, leveraging our spinning unit to manage costs." TAD Group Managing Director Ashikur Rahman Tuhin said, "Buyers are offering prices up to 15% lower. They are citing a drop in their sales due to lower demand in Western markets." "Order placement has slowed due to low demand in major markets, and buyers are offering lower prices," said Sparrow Group Managing Director Shovon Islam. BGMEA's former president Siddiqur Rahman referred to potential geo-political instability in view of wars, affecting consumer confidence to some extent.

Bangladesh, Vietnam to lead cotton consumption growth in next decade Bangladesh and Vietnam are expected to experience the fastest growth in cotton consumption and trade in the next decade as their capacities are projected to witness significant growth due to competitive labour and production costs, according to a global outlook.The demand in the textiles and apparel sectors, as well as competition from substitutes, would remain key factors influencing raw cotton consumption. The report also projected that world cotton trade would expand by 2.1 per cent annually reaching 12.4 million tonnes by 2033, driven largely by increased mill use in Bangladesh and Vietnam, which heavily rely on imports due to insufficient domestic production capacity.

আসছে নতুন মুদ্রানীতি : ঋণের সুদহার আরো বাড়ছে মূল্যস্ফীতি নিয়ন্ত্রণের লক্ষ্যে বাড়ানো হয়েছিল ঋণের সুদহার। সর্বোচ্চ ৯ থেকে বেড়ে ব্যাংক ঋণের সুদহার উঠেছে প্রায় ১৫ শতাংশে। যদিও এর সুফল ঘরে তুলতে পারেনি বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক। গত অর্থবছরজুড়ে নানা উদ্যোগের কথা বলা হলেও কমেনি মূল্যস্ফীতি। উল্টো নিত্যপ্রয়োজনীয় সব পণ্যের দাম বেড়ে সাধারণ মানুষের দুর্ভোগ বাড়িয়েছে বহু গুণ। এ অবস্থায় ঋণের সুদহার আরো বাড়ানোর পথে হাঁটছে কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংক। চলতি ২০২৪-২৫ অর্থবছরের মুদ্রানীতিতে সুদহার বৃদ্ধির ঘোষণা আসতে যাচ্ছে বলে সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্র নিশ্চিত করেছে।
