Md Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, vice-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said demand from the United States weakened as prices rose following the tariffs. Exports to the European Union, he added, were hurt by lower-priced shipments from competitors such as China, India and Vietnam.

পতনের ধারায় রপ্তানি আয় ডিসেম্বরে কমেছে ১৪% রপ্তানি খাতের সবশেষ পরিস্থিতি সম্পর্কে জানতে চাইলে বিজিএমইএর সাবেক সভাপতি এবং জায়ান্ট গ্রুপের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ফারুক হাসান গতকাল সমকালকে বলেন, অনেক কারণে রপ্তানি চিত্রের এই হতাশাজনক প্রবণতা চলছে। প্রথমত, মার্কিন পাল্টা শুল্কের কারণে বৈশ্বিক বাণিজ্য ব্যবস্থায় যে পরিবর্তন এসেছে তাতে অনেক দেশেই চাহিদা কমেছে। বিশেষ করে একক দেশ হিসেবে বাংলাদেশের প্রধান বাজার যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে আমদানি পণ্যের দাম বেড়ে যাওয়ায় সেখানে ভোক্তা পর্যায়ে ভোগ-ক্ষমতা কমেছে। এ কারণে সেখানে শুধু বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানিই কমেনি, বরং সব দেশেরই রপ্তানি কমছে। এর বাইরে অন্য বড় কারণের মধ্যে রয়েছে বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানি প্রতিযোগিতা সক্ষমতা কমে যাওয়া। এর বেশ কিছু কারণ রয়েছে। যেমন গত বছরের ৪ জানুয়ারি তৃতীয় দেশে পণ্য রপ্তানির জন্য বাংলাদেশকে দেওয়া দীর্ঘ দিনের ট্রান্সশিপমেন্ট সুবিধা বাতিল করেছে ভারত। এ কারণে ভারতীয় স্থল শুল্ক স্টেশন ব্যবহার করে বন্দর এবং বিমানবন্দর দিয়ে তৃতীয় কোনো দেশে পণ্য রপ্তানি করতে পারছে না বাংলাদেশ। এ কারণে রপ্তানিতে লিড টাইম অর্থাৎ ক্রেতা প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছ থেকে রপ্তানি আদেশ পাওয়ার পণ্য উৎপাদন করে তাদের কাছে পৌঁছানোর সময় আরও বেড়ে গেছে। এ কারণে কিছু ক্রেতা হারিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ।

Exports fall by 2.19pc in H1 amid weak demand Bangladesh’s export earnings declined by 2.19 per cent year-on-year in the first six months of the current financial year 2025-26, reflecting prolonged weakness in global demand and growing competitive pressure in major markets. Export receipts during July–December of FY26 stood at $23.99 billion, down from $24.53 billion recorded in the same period of the previous financial year, according to the latest data released by the Export Promotion Bureau on Sunday. Mohiuddin Rubel, former director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said global demand had weakened significantly, while Bangladesh’s focus on basic, low-priced products limited its pricing flexibility. He stressed the need for market and product diversification and a shift towards higher-value products to remain competitive.

অর্থবছরের প্রথমার্ধে পোশাক রফতানিতে ধাক্কা, ডিসেম্বরে বড় ধস চলতি ২০২৫-২৬ অর্থবছরের প্রথম ছয় মাসে (জুলাই–ডিসেম্বর) বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক (আরএমজি) রপ্তানিতে ঋণাত্মক প্রবৃদ্ধি দেখা গেছে। রফতানি উন্নয়ন ব্যুরোর (ইপিবি) তথ্য অনুযায়ী, এ সময় আরএমজি রফতানি হয়েছে ১৯ দশমিক ৩৭ বিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলার, যা আগের অর্থবছরের একই সময়ের তুলনায় ২ দশমিক ৬৩ শতাংশ কম। বাংলাদেশ অ্যাপারেল এক্সচেঞ্জের (বিএই) ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ও বিজিএমইএ সাবেক পরিচালক মহিউদ্দিন রুবেল বলেন, “রফতানির এই পরিসংখ্যান দেখাচ্ছে—বাজার পুনরুদ্ধার এখনও টেকসই হয়নি। বিশেষ করে ডিসেম্বরে নিটওয়্যার ও ওভেন— দুই ক্যাটাগরিতেই বড় পতন সতর্কবার্তা দিচ্ছে।”

দেশ রুপান্তর
বহুমুখী মন্দার ঝুঁকিতে দেশ বৈশ্বিক ও অভ্যন্তরীণ পরিস্থিতি বিবেচনায় সামনের দিনে বাংলাদেশ বহুমুখী মন্দার (স্ট্যাগফ্লেশন) ঝুঁকিতে রয়েছে বলে মনে করছেন বিশ্লেষকরা। তাদের মতে, রাজনৈতিক পটপরিবর্তনের পর দেশের অর্থনৈতিক পরিস্থিতি ও রিজার্ভ কিছুটা স্থিতিশীল হলেও ব্যাংকিং খাতে অস্থিরতা, রাজনৈতিক অনিশ্চয়তা, বিনিয়োগ স্থবিরতা এবং বেকারত্ব বৃদ্ধির ফলে এমন ঝুঁকি তৈরি হয়েছে। গতকাল রবিবার রাজধানীর বনানীতে পলিসি রিসার্চ ইনস্টিটিউট অব বাংলাদেশের (পিআরআই) নিজস্ব কার্যালয়ে প্রতিষ্ঠানটির ২০২৫ সালের নভেম্বর মাসের অর্থনৈতিক পর্যালোচনা প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশ অনুষ্ঠানে এমন মতামত এসেছে। অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ডিপার্টমেন্ট অব ফরেন অ্যাফেয়ার্স অ্যান্ড ট্রেডের (ডিএফএটি) সহযোগিতায় ‘মান্থলি ম্যাক্রোইকোনমিক ইনসাইটস (এমএমআই)’ প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশের আয়োজন করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নিয়েছেন বিশিষ্ট অর্থনীতিবিদ, নীতিনির্ধারক, কূটনীতিক এবং বেসরকারি পর্যায়ের নেতারা।
