যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সঙ্গে বাণিজ্যচুক্তি আজ, কমতে পারে শুল্কহার

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সঙ্গে আজ সোমবার রাতে বাণিজ্যচুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করবে বাংলাদেশ। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ওয়াশিংটন ডিসিতে বাংলাদেশ সময় রাত ১১টায় এ চুক্তি সই হওয়ার কথা রয়েছে। চুক্তি সই হলে বাংলাদেশের ওপর যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আরোপিত বিদ্যমান পাল্টা শুল্কহার ২০ শতাংশ থেকে আরও কমতে পারে বলে আশাবাদী বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা শেখ বশিরউদ্দীন। সচিবালয়ে গতকাল রোববার অনুষ্ঠিত এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা এ তথ্য জানান। বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা জানান, বাংলাদেশি পণ্যে ট্রাম্প প্রশাসন যে বাড়তি ২০ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ করেছে, তা কমবে বলে তিনি আশাবাদী। তিনি বলেন, ‘আমরা চেষ্টা করছিলাম যে আরও কত কমানো যায়। আশা করছি ৯ তারিখে যে চুক্তি হবে, তাতে তা (শুল্কহার) কমবে। তবে কতটুকু কমবে, তা এই মুহূর্তে আমি বলতে চাচ্ছি না বা পারছি না। আমরা আলোচনার ভিত্তিতে তা দেখব।’

The announcement came in a press release issued early today (9 February) by the Chattogram Bandar Rokkha Sangram Parishad, which has been spearheading protests for the past nine days.

EPA with Japan to benefit apparel The signing of the economic partnership agreement (EPA) with Japan marks a historic milestone in Bangladesh’s trade diplomacy, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said. The EPA represents not only a trade arrangement but also the natural progression of a trusted and long-standing partnership, the association said in a statement.It said the trade body and the entire readymade garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh remain deeply grateful to the government of Japan for its continued support in fostering sustainable economic growth and strengthening bilateral relations.

Bangladesh US tariff deal likely today Bangladesh eyes further cut in the rate of United States-imposed reciprocal tariff as the country is set to sign a deal with the US today in Washington amid purchasing more US goods. On Sunday, the commerce ministry officials said a number of ministry official were now travelling Washington to sign the deal.The signing ceremony is expected to be attended virtually by commerce adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and commerce ministry secretary Mahbubur Rahman. Dhaka has been negotiating with Washington for a cut since US president Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs against its trading partner countries, including Bangladesh, in April 2025.
