2025 RMG exports to US increase 11.75pc Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) exports to its largest destination, the United States, sustained double-digit growth both in terms of value and volume in 2025 amid the declining US import trend caused by tariff-related tension and uncertainty. Shovon Islam, managing director of Sparrow Group, attributes the overall growth to the pre-tariff additional work orders and advanced shipments in fear of high tariffs until July, when the country recorded significant growth, especially in the early months of 2025. Mahmud Hasan Khan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), says reciprocal tariffs for Bangladesh were lower than those for China and India, which put it in an advantageous position. Besides, orders from China shifted to other countries, and some also came here, he tells The Financial Express.

BGMEA discusses strategies to expand RMG exports in emerging markets A meeting of the Market Development Committees of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association was held today at the BGMEA office. The meeting focused on strategies to create new opportunities in emerging markets for Bangladesh’s ready made garment exports. Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Director of BGMEA, attended the meeting. The chairmen of the standing committees were also present. Abdullah Al Noman represented Australia, Sanjay Kumar Naha represented the United Kingdom, Syed Ansar Ullah represented Spain, Mamun Reza Jake represented South Africa, Md Jewel represented China, Poritosh Chandra Paul represented Argentina.

ওয়াশিংটনের চিঠির অপেক্ষায় ঢাকা : মার্কিন আদালতে পাল্টা শুল্ক বাতিলের সিদ্ধান্ত পর্যবেক্ষণ যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আদালতের রায়ে প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প প্রশাসনের পাল্টা শুল্ক (রিসিপ্রোকাল ট্যারিফ) কাঠামো বাতিল এবং একই সঙ্গে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রেসিডেন্টের পক্ষ থেকে নতুন করে ১৫ শতাংশ সমহারে শুল্ক আরোপের ঘোষণা এ দুই বিপরীতমুখী সিদ্ধান্তের প্রেক্ষাপটে বাংলাদেশ-যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বাণিজ্য চুক্তির ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে অনিশ্চয়তায় পড়েছে বাংলাদেশ সরকার। পরবর্তী করণীয় নির্ধারণে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আনুষ্ঠানিক চিঠির অপেক্ষায় রয়েছে ঢাকা।

কম শুল্কের সুবিধা নিতে দেরিতে জাহাজীকরণ যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে রপ্তানিতে পাল্টা শুল্কের বেশি হারের বোঝা এড়াতে রপ্তানি প্রক্রিয়া বিলম্বিত করছেন বাংলাদেশের উদ্যোক্তারা। ব্র্যান্ড-ক্রেতাদের সঙ্গে আলোচনার ভিত্তিতে উৎপাদিত পণ্য শিপমেন্ট বা জাহাজে তোলা দুই দিন পিছিয়ে দিয়েছেন কেউ কেউ। গত শুক্রবার যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সর্বোচ্চ আদালতে ‘পাল্টা শুল্ক’ অবৈধ ঘোষণা এবং এরপরই অন্য আইনে প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের পক্ষ থেকে ১৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপের পর কিছু রপ্তানিকারক এ প্রক্রিয়ায় পণ্য জাহাজে তুলছেন বলে জানা গেছে।

Rescheduling eased, businesses get breather In a circular issued on Sunday by its Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD), the central bank allowed distressed borrowers to pay only half of the required down payment-equivalent to 2% of the total outstanding loan -at the time of approval. The remaining 50% can be paid within six months of the effective date.Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez, president of the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI), praised the central bank’s structured approach. “Closing down an industry is easy, but overcoming political, climatic and global shocks is not. This initiative will help unintentionally affected industries recover and restore confidence in the business community,” he told the Daily Sun, adding that careful scrutiny by banks would ensure genuine borrowers benefit.

Without certainty, long-term planning is impossible," he said.

ট্রাম্পের আগের বৈশ্বিক শুল্ক নেয়া আজ থেকে বন্ধ করছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র আদালতের রায়ে অবৈধ ঘোষিত পাল্টা শুল্ক আদায় বন্ধ করতে যাচ্ছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের কাস্টমস অ্যান্ড বর্ডার প্রটেকশন (সিবিপি)। সংস্থাটি জানিয়েছে, ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের পাল্টা শুল্ক আদেশের সঙ্গে যুক্ত সব কোড স্থানীয় সময় আজ থেকে নিষ্ক্রিয় করা হবে। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সুপ্রিম কোর্ট শুল্ক অবৈধ ঘোষণা করার তিনদিনেরও বেশি সময় পর এ সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়া হলো।

উন্নতমানের পোশাক উৎপাদন হবে নীলফামারীতে দেশে উৎপাদিত সুতা ও কাপড় দিয়ে উন্নত মানের শার্ট, জিন্স ও জ্যাকেট পোশাক তৈরির কারখানা স্থাপন করবে চীনের হংকংভিত্তিক প্রতিষ্ঠান তিয়ানফোর্ড বাংলাদেশ টেক্সটাইল কোম্পানি লিমিটেড। নীলফামারীর উত্তরা ইপিজেডে কারখানাটি স্থাপনে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি প্রায় ২ কোটি মার্কিন ডলার বা প্রায় ২৪০ কোটি টাকা (প্রতি ডলার ১২০ টাকা ধরে) বিনিয়োগ করবে। আর এখানে কর্মসংস্থান হবে প্রায় ৩ হাজার ২৫৪ বাংলাদেশি নাগরিকের। গত ২২ ফেব্রুয়ারি রাজধানীতে বাংলাদেশ রপ্তানি প্রক্রিয়াকরণ এলাকা কর্তৃপক্ষের (বেপজা) সঙ্গে চুক্তি করেছে কোম্পানিটি। এর ফলে উত্তরা ইপিজেডে চীনের নতুন কোম্পানি স্থাপনের খবরে এ অঞ্চলের শত শত বেকার মানুষ কর্মসংস্থানের আশা দেখছেন।
