বিজিএমইএ ও অ্যাওয়ারের মধ্যে এমওইউ স্বাক্ষর : দেশের পোশাক খাতে ইইউর ডিজিটাল প্রডাক্ট পাসপোর্ট পরিপালনের উদ্যোগ এ উপলক্ষে গতকাল ঢাকায় এক অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়। এ সময় বিজিএমইএর সহসভাপতি ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান এবং অ্যাওয়ারের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ফিকো ভ্যান ডার ভিন নিজ নিজ প্রতিষ্ঠানের পক্ষে এমওইউতে স্বাক্ষর করেন। এমওইউ স্বাক্ষর অনুষ্ঠানে আরো উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিজিএমইএর পরিচালক শাহ রাঈদ চৌধুরী ও অ্যাওয়ারের বাংলাদেশ কান্ট্রি ম্যানেজার মুয়ীদ হাসানসহ উভয় প্রতিষ্ঠানের সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তারা।

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পোশাক রপ্তানিতে ধাক্কা বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান এ বিষয়ে কালের কণ্ঠকে বলেন, ‘বৈশ্বিক বাণিজ্যে এখন বড় ধরনের অনিশ্চয়তা বিরাজ করছে। মার্কিন পাল্টা শুল্ক, মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের যুদ্ধ পরিস্থিতি, জ্বালানিসংকট এবং দেশের রাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতা—সব মিলিয়ে রপ্তানি খাতের ওপর চাপ বাড়ছে। বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান রপ্তানি খাতের এসব চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবেলা করতে বাস্তবভিত্তিক ও দীর্ঘমেয়াদি পরিকল্পনা নেওয়ার পরামর্শ দিয়ে বলেন, ‘জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তাকে সর্বোচ্চ অগ্রাধিকার দিতে হবে। শিল্প-কারখানায় নিরবচ্ছিন্ন গ্যাস ও বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ নিশ্চিত করা জরুরি। রূপপুর বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র দ্রুত পূর্ণ সক্ষমতায় চালু করতে হবে। পাশাপাশি নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানিতে বিনিয়োগ বাড়াতে হবে।’ শুধু যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারের ওপর নির্ভর না করে মধ্যপ্রাচ্য, জাপান, অস্ট্রেলিয়া, আফ্রিকা ও লাতিন আমেরিকায় নতুন বাজার সম্প্রসারণের আহবান জানান তিনি। একই সঙ্গে বন্দর সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি, লিড টাইম কমানো, কাস্টমস ব্যবস্থার আধুনিকায়ন এবং ব্যাংকঋণের সুদহার সহনীয় পর্যায়ে আনার ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। বিজিএমইএর প্রথম সহসভাপতি কেডিএস গ্রুপের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক সেলিম রহমান কালের কণ্ঠকে বলেন, ‘বর্তমান বৈশ্বিক পরিস্থিতিতে তৈরি পোশাক খাতকে বহুমাত্রিক চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবেলা করতে হচ্ছে। বিশেষ করে বর্তমান ভূ-রাজনৈতিক অনিশ্চয়তা, বৈশ্বিক বাণিজ্য ব্যবস্থায় বিঘ্ন ও অস্থিরতা এবং বাংলাদেশের আসন্ন এলডিসি-পরবর্তী উত্তরণ বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে।’

Bangladesh’s apparel exports to US face setback BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said, “There is now major uncertainty in global trade. US retaliatory tariffs, the war situation in the Middle East, the energy crisis, and political instability at home are all increasing pressure on the export sector. “The United States is Bangladesh’s largest export market. Any decline in exports there directly affects the country’s garment industry. Many global buyers have already reduced orders, while pressure on product prices is increasing.“Buyers are now shifting from large orders to smaller and short-term ones. More difficult challenges lie ahead.”

BGMEA and GIZ sign MoU for sustainable transformation of apparel sector The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the German international cooperation agency GIZ have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the competitive edge of Bangladesh's RMG industry in the global market and promote eco-friendly industrialization.The signing ceremony took place on Sunday (May 10) at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara. The MoU was signed by Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of BGMEA, and Gundolf Klaehn on behalf of Thomas Rolf, Cluster Coordinator of GIZ. Key attendees included BGMEA Vice Presidents Vidya Amrit Khan and Mohammad Rafiq Chowdhury, as well as GIZ officials Michael Klode (Head of the STILE II project) and Md. Tanvir Masud.

Bangladesh fails to capture China's lost US apparel market share despite tariff shifts Sheheb Udduza Chowdhury, vice-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said China maintains a strong position in man-made fibre apparel, while Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia have also developed strong manufacturing capacity in the segment with substantial Chinese investment. "Since China is facing difficulties because of the additional tariffs, many of those purchase orders are shifting to these countries," he told The Business Standard. "That is why Bangladesh is not being able to capture the market share left by China." Mohiuddin Rubel, an apparel industry researcher and former BGMEA director, said countries like Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia are effectively utilising Chinese raw materials to consolidate their hold on the market segments China is being forced to vacate.

সবুজ পোশাক শিল্পের লড়াইয়ে বিজিএমইএ-র পাশে জার্মান জিআইজেড বিশ্ববাজারে বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক শিল্পের সক্ষমতা বাড়াতে এবং পরিবেশবান্ধব সবুজ শিল্পায়ন নিশ্চিত করতে একজোট হয়েছে পোশাক মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ এবং জার্মানির আন্তর্জাতিক সহযোগিতা সংস্থা জিআইজেড। রবিবার (১০ মে) রাজধানীর উত্তরায় বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে দুই প্রতিষ্ঠানের মধ্যে একটি কৌশলগত সমঝোতা স্মারক (এমওইউ) স্বাক্ষরিত হয়েছে। ২০২৬ সালের মে মাস থেকে ২০২৮ সালের ফেব্রুয়ারি পর্যন্ত কার্যকর হতে যাওয়া এই চুক্তির মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশে প্রথমবারের মতো বিজিএমইএ ও জিআইজেড আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে পোশাক খাতের টেকসই উন্নয়নে কাজ শুরু করল। অনুষ্ঠানে বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান এবং জিআইজেড-এর পক্ষে গুনডলফ ক্লেন নিজ নিজ প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করে চুক্তিতে সই করেন। অনুষ্ঠানে বিজিএমইএ-র সহ-সভাপতি ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান, মোহাম্মদ রফিক চৌধুরীসহ উচ্চপদস্থ পরিচালকবৃন্দ এবং জিআইজেড বাংলাদেশের শীর্ষ কর্মকর্তারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

BGMEA, AWARE™ sign historic MoU: A major leap toward EU ‘Digital Product Passport’ compliance for Bangladesh’s RMG sector In a landmark move, data regarding fibers imported by 4,000 factories in Bangladesh will be transformed into portable and verified evidence using blockchain technology. This initiative ensures compliance with the Digital Product Passport (DPP), which will be mandatory for European brands starting in 2027. BGMEA) and the Netherlands-based supply chain traceability platform, AWARE™, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today (Sunday) in Dhaka. The primary goal of this collaboration is to establish blockchain-based transparency and Digital Product Passport (DPP) capabilities within the Bangladeshi Readymade Garment (RMG) industry. The agreement was signed by Vidya Amrit Khan, Vice President of BGMEA, and Feico van der Veen, Founder and Managing Director of AWARE™, on behalf of their respective organizations. BGMEA Director Shah Rayeed Chowdhury was also present at the ceremony.
