পোশাক খাতের উন্নয়নে বিজিএমইএ ও ওকাইবের মতবিনিময় সভা অনুষ্ঠিত দেশের তৈরি পোশাক শিল্পে চীনা বিনিয়োগ বৃদ্ধি, প্রযুক্তিগত আধুনিকায়ন এবং টেকসই শিল্পায়ন নিয়ে বিজিএমইএ ও বাংলাদেশে ওভারসিজ চাইনিজ অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের (ওকাইব) মধ্যে মতবিনিময় সভা হয়েছে। সভায় যৌথ বিনিয়োগ, কারখানা অধিগ্রহণ, সবুজ প্রযুক্তি ও উৎপাদনে আধুনিক প্রযুক্তি ব্যবহারের ওপর গুরুত্ব দেয়া হয়। উত্তরার বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে গতকাল এ সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এতে বিজিএমইএর সিনিয়র সহসভাপতি ইনামুল হক খানের সভাপতিত্বে সহসভাপতি মো. রেজোয়ান সেলিম, ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান, মো. শিহাব উদ্দোজা চৌধুরী এবং পরিচালক ফয়সাল সামাদ, শাহ রাঈদ চৌধুরী, নাফিস-উদ-দৌলা ও রুমানা রশীদ অংশ নেন।ওকাইবের সভাপতি ফেলিক্স চ্যাং ওয়াই সি এর নেতৃত্বে ১৩ সদস্যের একটি প্রতিনিধিদল সভায় অংশ নেয়। প্রতিনিধিদলে সংগঠনটির সহসভাপতি অ্যান্ডি চ্যান, ক্লিফ রেন, লিসা লু, জোয়েল ওং, উপমহাসচিব জেসি ইউ এবং নির্বাহী পরিচালক স্টিভেন ঝাংসহ অন্য নেতারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সার্কুলার : পোশাক রপ্তানিতে নগদ সহায়তা বেড়ে ৫ শতাংশ স্থানীয় উৎস থেকে কাঁচামাল, বিশেষ করে সুতা ও কাপড় সংগ্রহ করে প্রস্তুত করা তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিতে নগদ সহায়তার হার তিন গুণের বেশি বাড়িয়ে ৫ শতাংশ করল সরকার। রপ্তানিমুখী দেশীয় বস্ত্র খাতে শুল্ক বন্ড ও ডিউটি ড্র-ব্যাকের পরিবর্তে এতদিন বিকল্প নগদ সহায়তা ছিল দেড় শতাংশ। রপ্তানিকারকদের দাবির মুখে এই হার বাড়ানো হয়েছে। এতে স্পিনিং মিল ও রপ্তানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠান উভয়ে উপকৃত হবে। গতকাল বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সার্কুলারের মাধ্যমে গত ১ জুলাই থেকে জাহাজীকৃত পণ্যে নতুন হারে নগদ সহায়তা দিতে বলা হয়েছে। তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিকারকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান বাবু সরকারের এ সিদ্ধান্তকে স্বাগত জানিয়ে সমকালকে বলেন, এক থেকে দুই সেন্ট দরের পার্থক্যের কারণে রপ্তানি আদেশ অন্য দেশে চলে যায়। সরকারের সাড়ে ৩ শতাংশ প্রণোদনা বৃদ্ধির এ সিদ্ধান্তের ফলে রপ্তানিতে প্রতিযোগিতা সক্ষমতা অনেক বাড়বে। আবার দেশীয় স্পিনিং মিলগুলো উপকৃত হবে। সব মিলিয়ে অর্থনীতিতে এর ইতিবাচক প্রভাব পড়বে।

বিশ্বমঞ্চে বিজিএমইএ এইচএসবিসি বর্তমান বৈশ্বিক অর্থনৈতিক প্রেক্ষাপট ও আন্তর্জাতিক বাণিজ্যের নানামুখী চ্যালেঞ্জকে সামনে রেখে বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক খাতের টেকসই প্রবৃদ্ধি এবং নতুন ও সম্ভাবনাময় বাজার সম্প্রসারণে একটি দূরদর্শী উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে। দেশের পোশাক রপ্তানিকারকদের শীর্ষ সংগঠন, বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ) এবং অন্যতম শীর্ষ আন্তর্জাতিক ব্যাংকিং প্রতিষ্ঠান হংকং অ্যান্ড সাংহাই ব্যাংকিং করপোরেশন লিমিটেড (এইচএসবিসি) যৌথ অংশীদারত্বের ভিত্তিতে বিশ্বমঞ্চে বাংলাদেশের পোশাক খাতের অবস্থান আরও সুদৃঢ় করতে যাচ্ছে। গতকাল রবিবার বৈশ্বিক রোডশো এবং বাজার সম্প্রসারণ কার্যক্রমকে কৌশলগত রূপ দিতে উত্তরার বিজিএমইএ দপ্তরে বিজিএমইএ এবং এইচএসবিসির মধ্যে একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক সই হয়েছে। বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান এবং এইচএসবিসির পক্ষে এইচএসবিসি বাংলাদেশের সিইও মো. মাহবুব উর রহমান সই করেন।

BGMEA to hold overseas roadshows to attract new garment buyers BGMEA will launch a series of roadshows in major trading hubs, including Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai, to attract global apparel buyers that currently do little or no business with Bangladesh. The initiative will begin with a roadshow in Hong Kong, while HSBC will support the programme by helping identify and engage potential buyers and encouraging them to participate in the events. The announcement was made at a programme held at the BGMEA headquarters in Dhaka yesterday (12 July). To formalise the collaboration, BGMEA and HSBC signed a MoU. The agreement was signed by Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, president of BGMEA, and Md Mahbub ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, on behalf of their respective organisations.Speaking at the event, Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, a BGMEA director, said the initiative would begin in Hong Kong before expanding to other global trading centres. "We will start with Hong Kong, but later we will also go to places such as Singapore and Dubai," he said.

How inefficient logistics cripple export ambitions Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, managing director of Amity Design Ltd and Vice President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), points to the Dhaka–Chattogram corridor as the primary pain point. “A truck that should complete the journey in five hours often takes 12 to 24 hours,” Shehab explains, “Persistent traffic bottlenecks at various points force truck rental costs up from Tk20,000 to as much as Tk40,000.” “Even when trucks arrive on time, they often face long queues,” he says, noting that mismanagement by port authorities, customs, and the roads department, compounded by extortion, has left the sector in a state of instability. “Because international product prices are often fixed in advance, businesses must absorb these extra costs. This erodes margins, pushes up bank liabilities, and increases non-performing loans – it has a corrosive effect on the entire economy.”Shehab also notes a stark contrast in customs efficiency, “It takes five to seven days for goods to arrive in Bangladesh from China, yet it often takes the same amount of time just to clear them from our ports. Imported raw materials under bonded warehouse facilities are frequently stuck for days due to unnecessary HS code verification, where businesses face delays and, too often, demands for unofficial payments.”

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পোশাক রপ্তানিতে বাংলাদেশ এখনো দ্বিতীয়, অন্য দেশের অবস্থান কোথায় যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারে চলতি বছরের প্রথম পাঁচ মাসে (জানুয়ারি-মে) তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিতে বাংলাদেশ দ্বিতীয় শীর্ষ স্থান ধরে রেখেছে। যদিও বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানি কমেছে। অন্যদিকে তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিতে শীর্ষে থাকা ভিয়েতনামের রপ্তানি বেড়েছে। ইউএস অফিস অব টেক্সটাইল অ্যান্ড অ্যাপারেলের (অটেক্সা) প্রকাশিত তথ্য অনুসারে, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারে চলতি বছরের প্রথম ৫ মাসে বাংলাদেশ ৩ দশমিক ২৫ বিলিয়ন ডলারের তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানি করেছে, যা গত বছরের একই সময়ের তুলনায় ৮ দশমিক ১ শতাংশ কম। যদিও রপ্তানি কমার এই হার যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সামগ্রিক তৈরি পোশাক আমদানির বাজার সংকোচনের চেয়ে সামান্য কম। তার মানে চাহিদা কমার কারণেই মূলত বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানি কমেছে।

BGMEA eyes Chinese investment, tech partnership Bangladesh’s garment manufacturers and Chinese business leaders have agreed to explore joint ventures, technology transfer and sustainable manufacturing initiatives to attract more Chinese investment and strengthen the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector. The understanding came at a high-level meeting between the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh (OCAIB) at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, on Saturday.Inamul Haq Khan, senior vice president of BGMEA, chaired the meeting, which was attended by BGMEA Vice Presidents Md Rezwan Selim, Vidiya Amrit Khan and Shehab Udduza Chowdhury. The 13-member Chinese delegation was headed by OCAIB President Felix Chang WYC, along with Vice Presidents Andy Chan, Cliff Ren, Lisa Lu and Joel Wong.

Trade bodies seek support after floods hit Ctg port Leading business associations have urged the government to announce an emergency support package for industries and exporters, warning that prolonged disruptions at Chattogram port following recent flooding could inflict heavy losses on the country’s manufacturing and export sectors. In a joint letter addressed to Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, the country’s leading trade bodies yesterday called for the immediate restoration of road and rail connectivity to Chattogram port, a waiver of port-related charges, concessional financing and fast-track customs clearance to minimise supply chain disruptions. The signatories included the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

EPB charts $66b export roadmap for FY27 The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has proposed a total export target of $66 billion for the 2026-27 fiscal year, comprising $57 billion from merchandise exports and $9 billion from services sector. The EPB has submitted the draft proposal to the commerce ministry, requesting prompt review and approval of the targets. The proposed benchmarks were finalised during a stakeholder consultation, chaired by EPB Vice Chairman and CEO Mohammad Hasan Arif. Representatives from government ministries and agencies, and export-oriented trade organisations, including BGMEA, BKMEA, BAPA, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), and the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association attended the meeting held at the end of last month.
