FY27 export target ambitious: experts : Global business and geopolitical atmosphere cited Industry leaders said that the proposed $66 billion export target of Bangladesh for the 2026-27 financial year was ambitious amid the ongoing global business and geopolitical atmosphere. Inamul Haq Khan, senior vice-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, told New Age that fuel price, prolonged war in the Middle East, and weaker demand from the United States and Europe amid the ongoing geopolitical issues, it would be tough to achieve a growth rate of over 18 per cent. ‘However, we need adequate policy supports, proper incentives, solutions to internal challenges like gas and energy shortage, port inefficiency, customs, and other costs of doing business, along with signing a free trade agreement with major destinations to minimise the gap between the target and actual earnings,’ he added.

শিল্প খাতে নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানির সম্ভাবনা : বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতির (বিজিএমইএ) সাবেক পরিচালক যখন প্রতিযোগী উৎপাদনকারী দেশগুলো নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানিভিত্তিক শিল্পায়নকে কেন্দ্র করে দ্রুত এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে, তখন বাংলাদেশের পিছিয়ে থাকার সুযোগ নেই। ইতিবাচক দিক হলো, ভিত্তি ইতোমধ্যে তৈরি হয়েছে। বাজেটের মাধ্যমে সরকার নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানিকে সমর্থন করার আন্তরিকতা দেখিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের সামনে এখন একই সঙ্গে দুটি জাতীয় অগ্রাধিকার বাস্তবায়নের সুযোগ রয়েছে– জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তা জোরদার এবং শিল্প খাতের প্রতিযোগিতা-সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি করা। নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানি এ দুটি লক্ষ্য অর্জনেই সহায়ক। লক্ষ্যটি হওয়া উচিত সহজ ও স্পষ্ট– যদি কোনো প্রতিষ্ঠান পরিচ্ছন্ন জ্বালানিতে বিনিয়োগ করতে এবং বাংলাদেশের উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যে অবদান রাখতে আগ্রহী হয়, তাহলে নীতি কাঠামো সেই উদ্যোগকে উৎসাহিত ও সহায়তা করবে। কয়েকটি বাস্তবসম্মত নীতিগত পরিমার্জনের মাধ্যমে এই প্রণোদনাগুলো আরও বেশি বেসরকারি বিনিয়োগ আকৃষ্ট এবং সরকার ও শিল্প খাতের মধ্যে কার্যকর অংশীদারিত্ব সৃষ্টি করতে পারে, যা গড়ে তুলবে একটি শক্তিশালী, টেকসই ও সহনশীল জ্বালানি ভবিষ্যৎ।

অর্থ ফেরত দিচ্ছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র দ্বিতীয় দফায় যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রেসিডেন্টের দায়িত্ব নিয়ে শুল্ককে নিজের হাতিয়ার হিসেবে বেছে নেন ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প। শত্রু-মিত্র, নির্বিশেষে প্রায় সব দেশের ওপর ট্রাম্প আরোপিত এই পাল্টা শুল্ক নতুন বাণিজ্যযুদ্ধের দামামা বাজিয়েছিল। এ নিয়ে আইনি লড়াইয়ের পর গত ফেব্রুয়ারি মাসে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সুপ্রিম কোর্ট অতিরিক্ত শুল্কের বড় অংশ বাতিল করেন। ফলে শুল্ক প্রদানকারী প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোকে অর্থ ফেরত দিতে বাধ্য হয় ট্রাম্প প্রশাসন। ইতিমধ্যে পাল্টা শুল্ক বাবদ আদায়কৃত অর্থের মধ্যে ৮১ বিলিয়ন ডলার ফেরত দিয়েছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র। স্থানীয় সময় গত সোমবার প্রকাশিত সরকারি বাজেট পরিসংখ্যান থেকে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে।

Green logistics: Route to sustainable trade Bangladesh must urgently transform its logistics system to remain competitive in global trade, as international buyers increasingly prioritise low-carbon supply chains and environmentally responsible sourcing, according to economists, trade experts and business leaders. Mohiuddin Rubel, additional managing director of Denim Expert Ltd and former BGMEA director, stressed the importance of public-private collaboration. He noted that Bangladesh now has 53 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified factories and 290 LEED-certified factories overall, reflecting significant progress in environmentally responsible manufacturing. “To ensure a green supply chain, dependence on road transport must be reduced. Road traffic can be disrupted at any time. Exporters need a sustainable transport system,” he said.

Chinese firms drive two-thirds of EPZ investments in FY26 Chinese investors have emerged as the principal drivers of new industrial investments in Bangladesh's Export Processing Zones (EPZs). Chinese-owned and joint-venture companies accounted for nearly two-thirds of the investment commitments secured by the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza) in the fiscal 2025-26. Bepza signed land lease agreements with 36 companies during the fiscal year, securing proposed investments worth $717.71 million, according to official figures. Of those companies, 23 are either wholly Chinese-owned or Chinese joint ventures, representing $498.86 million in proposed investments.

Bangladesh adds four more LEED-certified RMG factories Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) industry has added four more Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified factories, further strengthening the country’s position as the global leader in green garment manufacturing. Mohiuddin Rubel, a former director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said the new certifications reflect the industry’s continued commitment to sustainability, resource efficiency and environmentally responsible manufacturing despite global economic challenges. He said Bangladesh’s growing portfolio of green factories has strengthened the country’s reputation as a preferred sourcing destination for global apparel brands that increasingly prioritise sustainability and environmental compliance.
