অর্থনৈতিক অঞ্চলগুলোয় বিনিয়োগবান্ধব পরিবেশ তৈরি নিয়ে বিজিএমইএ ও বেজিয়ার মতবিনিময় সভা অর্থনৈতিক অঞ্চলগুলোতে নতুন বিনিয়োগের গতি বাড়াতে এবং বিনিয়োগকারীদের বিদ্যমান অবকাঠামোগত ও নীতিগত সমস্যা নিরসনে আজ সোমবার রাজধানীর উত্তরার বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ) এবং বাংলাদেশ ইকোনমিক জোনস ইনভেস্টরস এসোসিয়েশনের (বেজিয়া) মধ্যে এক উচ্চপর্যায়ের দ্বিপক্ষীয় মতবিনিময় সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। সভায় বেজিয়া প্রতিনিধিদলের নেতৃত্ব দেন সংগঠনের সভাপতি এম এ জব্বার। দলে আরো ছিলেন বেজিয়া’র সহ-সভাপতি হালিমুজ্জামান, পরিচালক দেলোয়ার এইচ টিটু, সিইও ড. অপরূপ চৌধুরী এবং সদস্য মুস্তাফিজুর রহমান। আর বিজিএমইএ’র পক্ষে বৈঠকে নেতৃত্ব দেন বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান। আলোচনায় আরো অংশ নেন বিজিএমইএ’র সহ-সভাপতি (অর্থ) মিজানুর রহমান।

Exporters seek share of $100b US tariff refunds Exporters say they are now seeking a share of the refunds or, at the very least, some form of compensation through their continued business relationships with US buyers. Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, president of the BGMEA, said he was not aware whether exporters were negotiating with buyers to recover the money they conceded tariffs. "If anyone is negotiating, they are doing so independently. Those who had absorbed a significant share of the cost may negotiate with their buyers. We believe the cost can be recovered through increased business, even if it is not returned directly," he said. Babu further mentioned that exporters who had shipped merchandise under LDP may be able to claim the tariff payments with legal assistance. "Those that exported under LDP terms can hire lawyers and claim the money. Lawyers from the US recently came and discussed the matter with us," he said. The association does not have precise data on the share of Bangladesh's US exports shipped under LDP terms. Babu said, however, that it is likely to be less than 10%, with more than 90% shipped under FOB terms.

ব্যবসার নিয়মকানুন সহজ করতে জাতীয় টাস্কফোর্স গঠন ব্যবসা সংক্রান্ত নিয়মকানুন সহজ করতে জাতীয় টাস্কফোর্স গঠন করেছে সরকার। এটি ব্যবসা ও বিনিয়োগের ক্ষেত্রে অপ্রয়োজনীয় নিয়ম, অনুমোদন ও প্রশাসনিক জটিলতা চিহ্নিত করে তা সহজ করার উদ্যোগ নেবে। অর্থ ও পরিকল্পনামন্ত্রীকে সভাপতি করে ২২ সদস্যের এ টাস্কফোর্স গঠন করে রোববার (৯ আগস্ট) মন্ত্রিপরিষদ বিভাগ থেকে প্রজ্ঞাপন জারি করা হয়। ব্যবসায়ী সংগঠনগুলোর প্রতিনিধিদের মধ্যে এফবিসিসিআই, ঢাকা চেম্বার অব কমার্স অ্যান্ড ইন্ডাস্ট্রি, ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন চেম্বার অব কমার্স অ্যান্ড ইন্ডাস্ট্রি, বিজিএমইএ ও বিকেএমইএর সভাপতিকে টাস্কফোর্সেও সদস্য রাখা হয়েছে। অর্থ বিভাগের অতিরিক্ত সচিব (সামষ্টিক ও টিডিএম) সদস্য সচিবের দায়িত্ব পালন করবেন।

Sluggish infrastructure and utility service fueled uncertainty in economic zones: BEZIA President The BEZIA president highlighted during a with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) held on Monday to boost investment momentum and resolve existing infrastructure and policy challenges in the economic zones. The meeting was held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka. The BEZIA delegation was led by its President, M A Jabbar, alongside Vice President Md. Halimuzzaman, Director Delwar H Titu, CEO Dr. Aporup Chowdhury, and Member Md. Mustafizur Rahman. BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan led the apparel trade body's delegation, accompanied by Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman.

বাণিজ্য ঘাটতি ২৭ বিলিয়ন ডলার ছাড়িয়েছে তথ্য অনুযায়ী, গত অর্থবছরে দেশের বাণিজ্য ঘাটতি দাঁড়িয়েছে ২৭ দশমিক ২৮ বিলিয়ন ডলার। আগের অর্থবছরের তুলনায় ঘাটতি বেড়েছে প্রায় এক-তৃতীয়াংশ। এ সময়ে বাংলাদেশ প্রায় ৪৩ দশমিক ৮৫ বিলিয়ন ডলারের পণ্য রপ্তানি করেছে, যা আগের বছরের তুলনায় প্রায় অপরিবর্তিত। বিপরীতে আমদানি বেড়ে হয়েছে ৭১ দশমিক ১৪ বিলিয়ন ডলার। এক বছরে আমদানি ব্যয় বেড়েছে ১০ শতাংশের বেশি, যা কয়েক বছরের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বড় বার্ষিক বৃদ্ধি।

Govt forms taskforce to deregulate, improve business climate The government has formed a national taskforce involving representatives from leading trade bodies on deregulation and business facilitation in an effort to improve the business climate and lure investors. The 21-member taskforce, chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, also comprises key cabinet members, senior officials and heads of regulatory agencies. It will approve sector-specific reform roadmaps on deregulation and business facilitation and review progress in implementing the reforms.
