H.E. Mr. Yao Wen, Ambassador of China to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy visit to Anwar Hossain, Administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka on December 17.
The meeting was attended by BGMEA Support Committee members Miran Ali and Shehab Udduza Chowdhury.
The discussions in the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for further collaboration between China and Bangladesh, particularly in the apparel and textile sectors.
Anwar Hossain provided an overview of Bangladesh's thriving ready-made garment (RMG) industry, highlighting key priorities such as diversifying into high-value non-cotton garments, fostering environmental sustainability, and facilitating technological upgradation.
He stressed the importance of knowledge sharing between Bangladeshi and Chinese textile and fashion institutions.
Anwar Hossain also laid emphasis on diversifying export items to the Chinese market. He stressed the importance of the exchange of visits by business delegations from both Bangladesh and China and encouraged participation in trade exhibitions to explore bilateral trade and investment prospects.
In addition to discussing trade and industrial collaboration, the BGMEA Administrator also urged the Chinese Ambassador to extend more support to Bangladeshi businessmen by sharing market intelligence to facilitate smoother business interactions and trade with China.
Ambassador Yao Wen highlighted China's role as a major supplier of man-made fibre-based fabrics, chemicals, and other raw materials, which can meet the growing demand of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
