Alexandra Berg von Linde, Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on S. M. Mannan (Kochi), President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on May 6.
The envoy, accompanied by Ms. Lovisa Hofmann, Head of Political, Trade, and Communication at the embassy, met with the leaders of BGMEA, including Senior Vice President Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Miran Ali, Vice President Abdullah Hil Rakib, and Directors Asif Ashraf, Md. Imranur Rahman, Md. Ashikur Rahman (Tuhin), Shovon Islam, Shams Mahmud, Md. Jakir Hossain, and Md. Rezaul Alam (Miru).
The discussions centered on various issues of mutual interest, with a primary focus on avenues to bolster bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Sweden.
The BGMEA leaders apprised the envoy of the current status, vision, and prospects of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry.
They underscored the industry’s commitment to sustainable growth and development, highlighting the initiatives taken aimed at fostering sustainability within the sector.
In this context, they expressed keen interest in Swedish support for advancing the RMG sector, particularly in renewable energy, innovation, technology transfer, and green growth initiatives.
In the meeting, both sides expressed a shared commitment to exploring opportunities for closer economic ties and collaborative avenues to benefit both Bangladesh and Sweden.
