BGMEA Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan represented BGMEA at a stakeholder workshop on National Traceability, Responsible Business Conduct and ESG Preparedness, organized by the Ministry of Commerce with support from UNDP. The workshop was chaired by Honourable Commerce Minister Mr. Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, MP.
In her remarks, Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan noted that Bangladesh’s apparel sector is highly exposed to emerging global traceability requirements, while also being among the most prepared sectors. She highlighted that BGMEA has already been undertaking DPP pilots, developing an ESG data platform, and preparing for CSDDD, HREDD and ESPR requirements.
She called for BGMEA to serve as the sector’s focal point and advocated for a single, internationally aligned standard built on existing platforms. She also urged Bangladesh to engage with the EU from a position of strength to safeguard the competitiveness of the industry and its SMEs.
Ms. Mayeesha Mahmud, Chairman, BGMEA Standing Committee on Traceability DPP and Shaikh Zawad Hasan, Sr. Assistant Secretary, BGMEA also attended the workshop.
Representatives of ILO, UNDP, GIZ, BUILD and other organizations participated in the workshop.
