Increase in gas price at present would have adverse impacts on the apparel and textile industry which is already beset with a number of challenges.
BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman made the statement while speaking at a press conference jointly organized by BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA to express concern over the proposed gas price hike. 
Against the backdrop of rising production cost and fall in product prices, the proposed increase in gas price by 132 percent would add to the woes of the industry, he said.
The BGMEA President urged the government not to take any decision that may hamper the apparel and textile sector, which acts as a major driver of economic development in Bangladesh.
BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon and First Vice President of BKMEA Mansoor Ahmed also spoke at the press conference held at the Apparel Club of BGMEA Complex on 20 March.
