The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has crossed another significant milestone in advancing transparency, accountability, and responsible growth in the country’s readymade garment sector. Upholding global standards, BGMEA has officially published its second Sustainability Report 2023. Following the first Sustainability Report released in 2020, this second edition stands as a strong and credible documentary testament to the sustainable development of Bangladesh’s garment industry.

The report was formally unveiled on Monday (12 January) at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara by BGMEA Acting President Salim Rahman. Also present at the event were BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim, Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Vice President Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, Director Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Director Mohammed Abdus Salam, Director Sheikh Hossain Muhammad Mustafiz, Director Mohammed Sohel, and Chairman of the BGMEA Standing Committee on Sustainable Energy Saifur Rahman (Shapu).

Following the success of the first report, this second publication has also been prepared in accordance with the globally recognized Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Framework. The report highlights the true position and transformation of Bangladesh’s garment industry in the global market.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, BGMEA Acting President Salim Rahman said,

“By publishing our first report in 2020, we began a journey toward transparency, and this second report further reinforces that commitment. Bangladesh’s garment industry is not confined to apparel manufacturing alone; it is a key driver of major social and economic transformation. This report serves as documentary evidence of our long-term vision and sustainable business practices, reflecting our firm commitment to building a resilient and responsible industry in the future.”

BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan stated that this initiative of BGMEA will help showcase the industry’s real achievements on the global stage. He also expressed gratitude to all member factories that contributed data and support to make the report possible.

It is noteworthy that the publication received financial support from the German development agency GIZ, while SusNex Limited was involved in ensuring technical excellence. The report has been published by BGMEA’s Responsible Business Hub (RBH).
