BGMEA Highlights Digital Product Passport at National Traceability Consultation

Yesterday on 13 March 2026, Policy Coordination Unit (PCU) of the Ministry of Commerce organized a consultation meeting to present the GAP Analysis on developing a National Strategy for Product Traceability under the STILE-II project.

BGMEA was represented by Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan along with Mayeesha Mahmud, Chairman, BGMEA Standing Committee on Traceability DPP.

Abdur Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, Michael Kolde from GIZ, along with representatives from UNDP, EPB and other trade associations took part in the meeting.

Ms. Ferdaus Ara, CEO at the Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) also spoke at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan emphasized that the upcoming EU sustainability regulations, particularly those related to the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products framework and Digital Product Passport requirements, should not be confused with other compliance mechanisms, as they will become mandatory for products entering the European market after a defined timeline.

She explained that the objective of these requirements is to ensure full traceability and transparency across the entire product lifecycle.

Vidiya Amrit Khan highlighted that BGMEA has already initiated a pilot project on Digital Product Passport.

She further noted that establishing a reliable and scalable traceability system will require collaboration across the entire supply chain.
