Major Md. Saiful Islam, psc, CSCM (Retd), BGMEA Secretary (Acting), participated as a speaker in the national dialogue titled “Ensuring a Just Transition in Bangladesh’s RMG Sector: Public-Private Sector Initiatives and Workers’ Realities,” organized by Karmojibi Nari with support from Christian Aid on 25 June 2026.
Tahmina Naznin Suravi, Assistant Secretary of BGMEA, also took part in the discussion.
In his address, Major Saiful Islam highlighted the remarkable progress achieved by Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry in the areas of sustainability, environmental compliance, workplace safety, resource efficiency, and green manufacturing.
Referring to the ongoing transformation of the global apparel industry driven by technological advancements, digitalization, and evolving sustainability requirements, he emphasized the need to prepare workers for future workplace demands through effective reskilling and upskilling initiatives.
Major Saiful also shared various initiatives undertaken by BGMEA and its member factories to enhance workers’ skills and adaptability, enabling them to capitalize on emerging opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven and sustainable industry.
He underscored that skills development, lifelong learning, and workforce readiness must remain at the core of any Just Transition strategy to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth for the sector.
