On 07 May 2026, BGMEA organized an important training workshop on the updated and amended “Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Act-2006” at the BGMEA Complex in Chattogram, aiming to make the readymade garment industry more organized and labour-friendly.
The workshop was attended by BGMEA Acting First Vice President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury; former BGMEA Director, Member of the Labour Reform Commission and Chief Coordinator of ILO & Labour Affairs A.N.M. Saif Uddin; and Md. Rafique Islam, Additional Secretary (Labour Division), BGMEA. Representatives from the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), Labour Inspectors Rezaul Reshma and Jannatur Rahela, were also present. A total of 102 HR managers, compliance officers, and relevant officials from 93 garment factories participated in the workshop.
Addressing the program as the chief guest, BGMEA Acting First Vice President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury said the workshop was organized to help BGMEA member factories gain expertise on the updated labour law and support its effective implementation. He stated that the amended labour law would play a significant role in ensuring proper application at factory level, fostering a business-friendly environment considering industry realities, and enhancing good governance, labour-friendly practices, and international acceptability in the country’s industrial sector through the 2026 labour law amendments.
He also particularly urged the HR managers and compliance officials of the garment factories present at the workshop to renew their fire licenses to ensure fire safety compliance.
